Cruise Vacation Travel: Tips on How to Enjoy Your Days at Sea

At Sea Days 4-1

Regardless of where you decide to take a cruise vacation you likely will have at least one day at sea. Before selecting a cruise you’ll want to decide what is important to you. If you really want to see as many different places as possible you’ll want to choose a cruise with the fewest days at sea. But don’t simply write off days at sea! You may be surprised to learn everything that is available on cruise ships. If you’ve never cruised before take some time to familiarize yourself with the different cruise lines sailing to the destinations you are considering. Then consider the needs of you or your family. If you’re cruising with kids take care to see what the activities available are for their ages. If you’re traveling with a partner think about the things you both enjoy when choosing your cruise.

Major cruise lines offer dozens of on-ship activities. From spa experiences to dance contents to world class shows and performers. You have plenty of opportunities to shape your vacation to be exactly what you want it to be! Here are some ideas to get you started.

Relax!

Your days on shore are likely to be highly scheduled to get the most out of it. When you’re on the ship why not just relax? Sleep in and enjoy a late breakfast. Sit around and sip coffee or enjoy a cold drink by the pool. Catch up on your reading or writing. If you’ve got a little extra cash to spend why not splurge on a massage or facial followed by a nice long nap? Then head down to a long dinner and conversation with your loved ones.

Shows and Performances

Cruise ships are always looking to add exciting and interesting shows to their lineup. Some ships even have indoor skating rinks for shows! You can find a daily listing of activities on board. Many shows are later in the evening and to accommodate parents wanting to see the less family friendly shows there is usually free or low priced childcare available. It’s really worth taking the time to check out one or more of the shows.

Learn Something

Every day you’ll be presented with a list of different activities. Ships cater to at sea days to keep people on board happy and busy. There may be guest speakers on specific topics on board. Or you may find professional photographers offering classes on how to take better vacation images while you’re in port. Or perhaps you’d like to learn a foreign language? You will be surprised to see how many different classes are available for all ages.

Get Active

If laying around isn’t your thing there are plenty of things to get your blood pumping. Onboard gyms are fairly standard as are fitness classes. Some cruise lines have zip lining on the top deck or offer a wave pool or surf-rider. Ropes courses, basketball hoops, and rocks walls are some of the other activities.

So, don’t fret if you have more days at sea, you may discover they’re even more rewarding than your days at port!
