Fun Themed 5K Races Around America

I never realized just how much fun you could have running a 5K! It’s not one of my strengths and, typically, you will only catch me running if I am being chased by zombies or when I hear the words “last call.” However, these races are more than just a run to the finish line…

Bacon Chase – I.Love.Bacon. It’s delicious meat candy! This bacon run is filled with piggy goodness. Runners get unlimited bacon at the finish line, bacon bits through the course and a Bloody Mary garnished with bacon. Currently, races take place all over all over the United States. Chicago, California, Portland, Texas, Florida, Ohio, Colorado, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and Boston are just a few of the participating areas.

The Wicked Wine Run – Participants in this 5K can run, jog or walk through vineyards with fellow wine enthusiasts in costumes, hats, masks or just your favorite running gear. During the race, you can make pit stops for wine samplings and, when you’ve finished, kick back to enjoy some live music, more wine tastings and offerings from food trucks. You can currently find these races in California and Texas.

Boston Urban Idiotorama – It’s described as an “Urban Shopping Cart Adventure Race and Food Drive in Boston,” but it is so much more. Imagine a dog sled race where shopping carts are used instead of a sled and your team of huskies are dressed to impress in any theme you can imagine. You won’t just be enjoying a run, teams participate in costume contests, games, a talent contest, bar crawl and food drive during this race.

5k Foam Fest – Mud foam and obstacles are on this trail! Teams are encouraged to band together to conquer the run that culminating in messy fun. Kids 10 and older can run the race, but all children are welcome to enjoy the foam pit and enjoy the bounce houses.

The Hot Chocolate Race– Currently, 14 cities have this sweet race. Enjoy rivers of chocolate, goodie bags that are packed with amazing rewards that each runner will gobble up. The Post Race Party is filled with music, a kid-friendly zone, mugs of hot chocolate, fondue and tasty treats.

Ridiculous Obstacle Challenge 5k – Also known as ROC Race, this “race” is more like a challenge you’d see on a game show with big red balls. Obstacles include the infamous Wrecking Ball, the brand new Sweeper, Jump Balls and the World’s Largest Inflatable Water Slide.
