La Casa del Zorro Lights Up the Holidays and the Senses

La Casa del Zoro Front Entrance

While sun, sand and cacti may not be the first things to invoke thoughts of classic carols and cozy holiday drinks, the most wonderful time of the year is alive and well in the desert community of Borrego Springs. The town’s landmark resort, La Casa del Zorro, is spreading holiday cheer in the form of high-end feasts and New Year’s festivities, deliciously luxurious holiday spa treatments and its first-ever tree lighting ceremony to deliver an unforgettable season to guests and locals alike.

Visitors seeking relief from the unwelcome holiday tradition of cooking and dishes can find solace – and a number of delicious options – at the resort’s Thanksgiving and Christmas buffets. For Thanksgiving, La Casa del Zorro is serving up a special menu featuring bites like French Herbed Prime Rib, Wine Braised Brussel Sprouts with Bacon and Lemon Zest, Roasted Fingerling Potatoes with Apricot, and of course, plenty of turkey and pumpkin pie. On Christmas Day, diners will have the chance to celebrate with everything from Honey Glazed Ham and Gouda Macaroni to Mini Fruit Tarts and Buche de Noel. For both buffets, adults can dig in for $39.95 and kids under 10 can enjoy for just $14.95. La Casa del Zorro’s renowned fine dining restaurant, the Butterfield Room, will also be offering an exclusive prix-fixe menu on both holidays. Reservations are required for all events and can be made by calling 760-767-0100. And, in addition to treating tastebuds, diners will be able to treat their ears to the piano stylings of Glenn Wheeler, playing chic jazz and blues tunes in the ballroom to celebrate each occasion.

The holidays are nothing without lights, so on Sat., Nov. 29, La Casa del Zorro will be hosting its very first, one-of-a-kind tree lighting event at 5 p.m. However, this isn’t your typical ceremony – the hotel is inviting guests, staff and locals to gather around the main porte cochere to “ooh” and “ahh” as they ignite 10 trees with glittering, colorful LED lights. Signature palms and cypresses will also be dressed up for the season with white lights. Attendees can expect a festive evening, plus complimentary holiday treats and hot chocolate for all who stop by.

For those on the hunt for the perfect gift or a break from the holi-daze, the property’s Balance Spa and Salon is offering great ways to kick back, relax and celebrate the spirit of the season. Through Dec. 31, spa visitors can add festive flavor to their treatments with complimentary add-ons like a free pumpkin peel with any facial, a free peppermint scalp massage with any massage and a free chocolate foot scrub with any pedicure. The boost applies to all treatments 50 minutes or longer and simply needs to be mentioned while booking. Guests hungry for a zen moment can reserve online or call the spa at 760-767-0100.

Finally, the hotel’s New Year’s Celebration invites revelers to ring in 2015 in style with a dance party featuring live entertainment by Sue Palmer and the Motel Swing Orchestra. Running from 9:30pm until 1am, the lively party will include favors and a midnight sparkling wine toast, with tickets available for $55 per person. Guests can also choose to make a full night of it with the four-course dinner and party package. For $285 per couple, diners will be treated to a pre-celebration meal featuring an appetizer, salad, choice of entrée and dessert and access to the New Year’s dance event. Reservations and prepayments are required and can be secured at 760-767-0100.
