Viking Ocean Cruises Dominates 2017 Cruisers’ Choice Awards

Viking Ocean Cruises Dominates 2017 Cruisers' Choice AwardsThis week Viking Ocean Cruises’® premier sister ships, Viking Star® and Viking Sea®, received the highest honors in 10 categories in the Cruise Critic® 7th Annual Cruisers’ Choice Awards.

Both ships completed a near-sweep of their categories, capturing awards in the top two placements of almost every category in which they were eligible.

“It is an honor for our first two ocean ships to be distinguished as the best ships by the members of the Cruise Critic community,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking Cruises.

“I am proud to see Viking Star and Viking Sea receive such high accolades from the industry and our guests,” he added. “The Viking scores reflected in the Cruisers’ Choice Awards are entirely consistent with our internal quality ratings, in which 99.8% of our guests rate their Viking experience above or far above expectations.”

Viking Sea, in just its first year of service, netted first place in the following categories: Best Overall, Best Entertainment, Best for Fitness & Recreation, Best Public Rooms, Best Service, and Best Shore Excursions.

Mirroring the awards success of its sister ship, Viking Star snapped up first place awards in the following categories: Best Dining, Best for Value, Best Cabins (for the second year in a row), and Best for First-Timers.

Most notably, the Viking ships also received second place awards in most of the same categories! Viking Star took Second Place (behind Viking Sea), in Best Overall, Best for Fitness and Recreation, Best for Public Rooms, Best for Service and Best for Shore Excursions.

Likewise, Viking Sea took second place (behind Viking Star), in Best Cabins, Best Dining and Best Value.

The prestigious Cruise Critic is the world’s foremost cruise reviews site, as well as online cruise community; the Cruisers’ Choice Awards are based on ratings submitted by members for cruises taken in 2016.

Viking is known in the industry for providing, “the thinking person’s cruise,” an alternative to mainstream cruises. Small ships allow passengers to get closer to their destination and provide more overnights in port.

Colleen McDaniel, Senior Executive Editor, Cruise Critic, stated, “With these awards we consolidate the thousands of reviews submitted to Cruise Critic each year and honor those lines that received the best ratings from cruisers.”

“Reviews offer … insights for those planning a cruise but also highlight the remarkable experiences and levels of service that people encounter … on a cruise. We’re thankful to everyone who added their voice to these awards by taking the time to write a review,” she added.

The Viking Star and Viking Sea each accommodate 930 guests, and offer 465 cabins. Each ship boasts five stateroom categories, all with private verandas, king-size beds, large showers, and heated bathroom floors.

And, for those times that passengers wish to stay in, each stateroom has an interactive flat-screen LCD TV, complete with movies-on-demand!
