Here’s Your Chance To Visit The Real Deadwood in South Dakota

If there is one thing that many television fans love to do, it visits the locations that have inspired some of the biggest and most watched series on the small screen. That’s why so many viewers are excited to know that you can now visit a town that not only inspired a popular HBO series but book a customizable package that will make you feel like you are traveling back in time. That’s right! Dust your boots off and grab your hat and get ready to see Deadwood, South Dakota for yourself.

The HBO series Deadwood was set in a small mining town near the foothills of the Black Hills that was actually not part of any state or territory during the post-Civil War years. As a result, the town was lawless. Set in 1876, Deadwood attracted people looking to get rich after a huge gold strike. The new residents also wanted to capitalize on the fact that there was no organized law in town. The first episode of the highly-rated HBO series debuted on March 21, 2004, while the final episode aired back in August of 2006.

Here’s Your Chance To Visit The Real Deadwood in South Dakota

Both the South Dakota and Deadwood tourism boards have teamed up to launch a ‘Deadwood: Heroes and Villains’ customized package for fans of the show who want to visit the much-talked-about town. After all, many die-hard fans know that Deadwood is not only a real city, but the characters on the show were also real people, too.

Some highlights of the packaged tour include;

A visit to Mount Moriah where Bullock, Calamity Jane, and Hickock are buried
• Ghost tour of the Historic Bullock Hotel, infamous for being haunted by Bullock himself
• Viewing of The Trial of Jack McCall play, as portrayed in season 1 of Deadwood and based on the actual trial after McCall murdered Hickok
• The Lawman’s Patrol Walking Tour, led by a Con Stapleton re-enactor to learn about the town’s brothels, bars, and unique architecture; Stapleton was Deadwood’s first Marshal and a card dealer in the show
• A ride on the Deadwood Stagecoach, one of the most recognizable Old West icons
• Tours of the authentic 1876 Broken Boot Gold Mine and of history museums:

• The Days of 76 Museum, featuring exhibits that honor Deadwood’s first pioneers

•The Adams Museum and House described as “the grandest house west of the Mississippi” where influential business leaders of Deadwood would gather for dinner

Keep in mind that the activities are booked separately as you build your package. The starting from pricing will be higher during special events. More nights, upgraded room, more activities, extra person or older children will also adjust the price of your package.

In addition to the customized package, fans are especially excited to know that HBO has just realized a tease for the series-turned-movie Deadwood. The Deadwood film follows the indelible characters of the series, who are reunited after ten years to celebrate South Dakota’s statehood. The film will make its debut on HBO on May 31, 2019.
