Viking Announces European River Sailings Restart July 2021

Travel news reveals that Viking has announced its European river sailings will restart this summer. Its European river operations launch in July 2021 with itineraries in Portugal, France and along the Rhine.

The sailings are for vaccinated guests only, and are a part of Viking’s Welcome Back collection. The initial five European river itineraries in July include some of the line’s most popular.

“Welcome Back” Collection Includes Select River Itineraries

One is the Rhine Getaway which includes 8 days, from Amsterdam to Basel and Portugal’s River of Gold which is 10 days from Lisbon to Porto.

Also included is Paris & the Heart of Normandy which is 8 days and includes Paris roundtrip.

The next is Lyon & Provence which is 8 days, Avignon to Lyon. France’s Finest is also included, a 15-day journey that combines the northern and southern France itineraries.

Viking’s exciting announcement comes on the heels of the European Union’s statement that its borders are reopened to vaccinated Americans and other travelers.

Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking said, “The response to our initial Welcome Back ocean voyages has been overwhelmingly positive. It is clear that many people are eager to get back out into the world, and I would like to thank all of our destination partners for their support as we plan our return to service.”

“We have been delighted to greet our first guests back on board in England this week—and we are looking forward to welcoming travelers back on board some of our European river vessels in July.”

Viking River Itineraries Debut in July

Viking’s restart of European river cruises comes after the launch of Welcome Back voyages for vaccinated guests in England, Iceland, Bermuda and the Mediterranean. Viking recently named its newest ocean ship, Viking Venus®, in England.

The ship is now on her maiden voyage along the coast of England with Chairman Torstein Hagen on board. At this time Viking is developing Welcome Back itineraries in a variety of other destinations and they hope to announce additional 2021 sailings as soon as possible.

Passengers on the new voyages will experience Viking’s industry-leading health and safety program. The Viking Health & Safety Program is grounded in scientific research and was created in partnership with an international team of medical advisors. All ships have a full-scale laboratory and a network of shoreside labs, as all guests and crew will receive frequent, quick, easy, non-invasive saliva PCR tests.

In addition, state of the art air purification technology has been installed on all Viking ships. Additional health checks, sanitization and physical distancing measures will provide further protection for Viking guests and crew throughout their journey.
