Moon Hotels on Earth
There has been much talk in recent years about space tourism. In fact, some people have already gone to space with Jeff Bezos’ rocket, including Captain James T. Kirk himself, William Shatner.
While Moon World Resorts is planning a series of Moon Hotels, images have been released of a possible Dubai hotel. In the artistic sketches, the Moon Hotel is pictured where the Burj Khalifa is in Dubai.
To get an idea of the grand scale of the hotel, each will feature a 360-degree recreation of the moon complete with craters and rocky texture. Each of the Moon Hotels could stand 735 feet high, with a 2,042 ft circumference, depending on planning permissions.
The moon as a ‘recognizable brand’
The co-founder of the company added that each Moon World Resort will be a very luxurious and contemporary, fully integrated destination resort. Each hotel will feature a lot of components inside, including restaurants, a spa and a convention center, all with a lunar twist.
Moon-themed stay
We will give you the ability in your lifetime to walk on what you will believe to be the lunar surface.
Planning for the project has been going on for around 20 years. Planners have taken their time, as obviously the project faces “tremendous technical challenges.” Meanwhile, he and co-founder Sandra G. Matthews have been working with independent engineers and architects to make their dream come true. Henderson told CNN:
We basically have a plethora of groups around the world who we just pull in, as we need them. But obviously, once the project actually starts to build, then they will be located in a particular region.
Four Moon Hotels planned
Eventually, Moon World Resorts is planning four Moon Hotels, one in Europe, one in North America, one in the Middle East and Northern Africa and one in Asia. However, Dubai has been picked as a “front runner” for the project. Henderson explained that the UAE and Dubai are very popular for tourists and feature “a lot of infrastructure” projects.
As many people know, Dubai keeps coming up with new and impressive architectural wonders, including the now famous Museum of the Future. Along with its artificial islands and more, the city would be the perfect location for a Moon Hotel.
Cheaper alternative to space tourism
Whether the project will eventually take off is currently unknown. However, the licensing model the company is planning could make it viable. Moreover, Henderson hopes the first licensee, who will be expected to cough up US$5 billion, will be secured by the end of this year. He then theorizes that the first Moon World Resort could open in 2027.
