The Spanish national rail operator Renfe has announced that tickets are about to go on sale for the new Avlo high-speed trains, to run between Malaga and Madrid. Avlo is the low-cost, more affordable alternative to the current AVE high-speed trains. Read on to find out more about the new high-speed rail service and when tickets will be available.
Avlo high-speed train between Madrid and Malaga
Running between Spain’s capital and Malaga on the Costa del Sol, the new Avlo high-speed train offers a cheaper alternative for passengers. This makes it ideal for those on a budget, wishing to visit both major cities. According to national rail operator, Renfe, the new Avlo high-speed train will start running on June 1, just in time for the summer season.
Initially, the Avlo service will consist of two trains, running between Atocha Station in Madrid and Malaga’s María Zambrano station per day. The trains will depart from Malaga early in the morning, returning from Madrid in the afternoon.
When do tickets go on sale?
While the Avlo high-speed trains start operation on June 1, 2023, Renfe has announced that tickets will be available on April 12 via the Renfe website. Reportedly, all tickets will be of the same class, called Basic, and prices will go up or down depending on the demand. Apparently, the trains are managed through a dynamic system, making it easier to keep track of demand.
The price has yet to be announced, but on top of the base ticket price, passengers can add additional services, including seat selection, additional baggage and changes or cancelations. Meanwhile, the base price does include a small suitcase per passenger. According to Renfe, the base price will run from €7 ($7.63).
What do the Avlo trains offer?
According to Renfe, services provided on the Avlo trains will be similar to those of the AVE high-speed trains. However, the carriages will feature more striking signage and have been adapted to accommodate more seats.
Meanwhile, the new Avlo trains will not offer a cafeteria or mobile bar service like AVE trains do. However, they will offer automatic vending machines for drinks and snacks. As for the number of seats available, each train can accommodate 436 passengers. Moreover, two additional seats are for passengers with reduced mobility.
It should be noted that, unlike AVE, Avlo trains will make stops at all the intermediate stations on the high-speed line. These include Antequera-Santa Ana, Puente Genil, Córdoba, Puertollano and Ciudad Real. Due to this, the journey will take longer than the AVE service which makes fewer stops. However, this means that passengers living in those cities will also have access to the high-speed service.
