As we head to the end of 2023, it’s time to plan interesting travels in the upcoming New Year. One place that should be on everyone’s bucket list is Ruby Falls. This tallest underground waterfall in the US can be found under a mountain in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Even better, visitors can see this magnificent natural attraction in a glass elevator.

About Ruby Falls

Ruby Falls is one of the most spectacular natural wonders in the United States and is hidden within another natural landmark. Lookout Mountain looms above the cave and its waterfall and is, in itself, one of the major attractions near Chattanooga, Tennessee. Viewing and visiting both attractions is a spectacular experience.

With its series of underground cascading waterfalls, Ruby Falls is set 1,120 feet within Lookout Mountain. On the outside, people line up to ride in the glass-rooted incline railway up the mountain, but the best attraction is inside.

Entering the cave, visitors first ride the glass-front elevator that descends an amazing 26 stories into the heart of Lookout Mountain. Once down at the bottom, visitors can see ancient formations, including stalactites and stalagmites and, of course, the waterfall itself.

Bear in mind that all visits to Ruby Falls must be guided to protect the underground cave and its visitors. The Cave Walk is a popular guided tour, offering a faster-paced journey through the cave to the iconic waterfall. Along the way, visitors can hear pre-recorded audio about the magnificent cave. However, visitors can also enjoy a before-hours Gentle Walking Tour, which offers even more information, and an after-hours Lantern Tour.

Meanwhile, both attractions are located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a southern town famed for its biking, hiking and rock climbing.

Those visitors with a romantic soul should visit Ruby Waterfall around Valentine’s Day, as the Romance at Ruby tour delves into the waterfall’s past. The cave was first discovered in 1928 by Leo Lambert, who named his amazing discovery after his wife, Ruby.

Moreover, Ruby Falls is open all year round, as it boasts average temperatures of 60 degrees Fahrenheit all the way through.

Moreover, there is also a climbing tower located on Lookout Mountain.
