Viking Mira Achieves Float Out, Newest Ocean Ship Set to Debut in Spring 2026

Viking (www.viking.com) has announced the latest milestone for its newest ocean ship, the Viking Mira®. Today the vessel was “floated out” an event that commemorates a major construction milestone as it’s the first time the ship has touched water.

The Viking Mira is classified as a small ship, as are all Viking ocean ships, with a gross tonnage of 54,300 tons, and 499 staterooms that can accommodate 998 guests.

The ship is scheduled to debut in spring 2026 and will spend her inaugural season sailing itineraries in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.

Torstein Hagen is the Chairman and CEO of Viking and he said “In our view, together with Fincantieri we have created the world’s most elegant fleet of small ocean ships—and the float out of the Viking Mira marks yet another important milestone as we continue to grow our fleet.”

Hagen added: “As we prepare to welcome her in 2026, we are proud to offer even more opportunities for curious travelers to explore the world in Viking comfort.”

Viking Sets The World Standard

Viking’s traditional float out ceremony took place at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona. A float out is significant because it marks a point in time in which a ship moves into its final stage of construction.

The traditional float out of the Viking Mira began on July 31 at approximately 11:00 a.m. local time. At that time the ship’s ceremonial cord was cut, signaling water to flow into the ship’s building dock.

What follows is a two-day process that will set the Viking Mira fully afloat. From there the vessel will be moved to a nearby outfitting dock for her final construction and interior build-out.
