They will be driving across the US this summer and stopping across the way to teach kids about conservation. They will encourage the children they meet to find and explore something in the environment around them, whether it be a creek in the backyard or an ancient ruin that they manage to stumble across. They will sign a pledge initiating the kids as Explorers of their particular spaces, and the children in turn will pledge to protect and study that particular region.
Basically, the goal of this mission is to bring the idea of conservation to its simplest form possible, through a child’s eyes. It truly doesn’t need to be more complicated than that, but the politics of today’s environment have forced conservation to become a topic that’s barely discussed with youth. Heck, it’s barely discussed even with adults, and they’re the ones who should be focusing on conservation.
The expedition will definitely stop through major cities, and the team will be partnering with National Geographic Kids to put on events for the whole community. Using fun activities, their aim is to get both the parents and kids involved in conservation, and get them excited about the concept so that they won’t forget about it in the future.
