Florida has the most beautiful sunsets that I’ve ever seen. Seriously. They’re vivid. They’re vibrant. They’re, in a word, arresting. The colors simply can’t be beaten. And these sunsets occur in a place that is a bit more accessible, to most of us who live in the United States than, say, the tropics. Haha! Now you can catch a quality sunset pretty much anywhere in Florida, but one of my very favorite areas to see sunsets in Florida is Tampa Bay. Surrounded by water, the Tampa Bay area is rife with prime time sunset viewing spots!
And that’s why we’re going to talk about some of the best spots to see sunsets in Tampa today. This is, by no means, an exhaustive list, but it should definitely cover you with nearly a week’s worth of gorgeous sunset-watching ideas. Whether you’re going on vacation or currently live in Tampa, you’re going to want to bookmark these spots! You can never see too many Florida sunsets in my book!
Where to See the Sunset in Tampa Bay
1. The Hurricane Rooftop – This restaurant and bar are a St. Petersburg landmark and nothing beats sipping on a, you guessed it, Hurricane cocktail while watching the sunset over the water on Pass-A-Grille Beach. This beach, by the way, is a hidden gem. It’s as beautiful as you’d expect a Florida beach to be without all the chaos.
2. Crabby Bill’s – If you do want to head to the busier St. Pete Beach, the rooftop bar at Crabby Bill’s is a must! I”m a big fan of settling in with a grouper sandwich and a nice cold one to wait for the sunset! It also makes a great casual date night spot if you’re in the market for such a thing.
3. Ballast Point – In the heart of South Tampa, you’ll find the lovely Ballast Point Park complete with a boardwalk that’s perfect for sunset watching. It’s a great place to take the kids later in the afternoon as it tends to be a bit cooler then. They get to play and you get to enjoy the sunset! I’d call that a win win situation.
4. Oystercatchers – This is a most excellent brunch spot, but it’s also a wonderful place to see the sunset. You’re in for top-notch seafood, which you’d expect in Florida right and a view that can’t be rivaled. This restaurant is also date night worthy, just plan on dressing up a bit more than you would at Crabby’s Bill’s for instance. It’s worth the effort. Trust me!
5. Fort De Soto Park – If you would like your sunset to come with a side of nature, this is the place for you! Head to the North Beach area for serenity now. Pack a picnic and enjoy a day full day at the beach before it’s sunset time. Or you can simply show up for the sunset. Pick your poison!
So, are you ready to start checking the best spots to see sunsets in Tampa, Florida off your list or what? I guarantee you sunsets so breathtaking, you’ll want to return again and again! And if you’re lucky enough to live in Tampa Bay, you just might find a new favorite haunt. I can’t wait to return to all of these places to see the sunset in Tampa myself!
