The survey took several factors into account with the survey: Quality of Life, Ease of Settling In, Working Opportunities, Family Life, and Finances.
5. Portugal
In 2016 Portugal ranked in the 28th place marker, making a jump of 23 places! Thanks to high scores in the Quality of Life index and the Ease of Settling In, Portugal has skyrocketed across the board. Of the expats who moved, 89% are generally happy with their life.
4. Taiwan
Taiwan fell from the number 3 spot, but it’s still holding strong as an expat’s favorite new home. The suffering from the impacts of rapid industrialization is easily countered by excellent medical care. According to the survey, 68% of expats are completely satisfied with the quality of healthcare making it the highest percentage worldwide.
3. Mexico
Mexico is a consistent favorite for expats ranking in the Top 5 places to live abroad on a yearly basis. For 2017, it’s in the top 5 for three indices: Ease of Settling In, Personal Finance, and Cost of Living. Most expats gush about the amazing weather, the delicious food, and the friendly people.

2. Costa Rica
If you’re looking to socialize and establish strong relationships with others, Costa Rica is the place for you. Ranking in first place for Finding Friends, the mix of Costa Ricans and fellow expatriates will be your playground. The country also makes the top 3 spots for Quality of Life, Ease of Settling In, and Family Life.

The country may be enduring some scrutiny for those opposing the government’s political standing, but Bahrain still nabbed the top spot for living abroad.
