Viking Saigon To Make 2021 Debut On The Mekong

The world might be in a slightly different place these days because of the global pandemic that has been the coronavirus outbreak, but that hasn’t stopped travelers from dreaming about their next destination and of course, making all of the necessary plans for it.

Travel and exploration might not be on anyone’s list for this season, but thankfully cruise lines like Viking® are making all of the plans and preparations to take their guests to places they’ve never been before. In fact, Viking has announced that they will launch a new ship next summer for its popular Magnificent Mekong cruise tour. Here’s what you need to know.

Viking® Launching The ‘Magnificent Mekong’ Cruise Tour

According to the company’s latest press release, Viking will launch a new vessel for its ‘Magnificent Mekong’ cruise tour. The 80-passenger Viking Saigon, which is currently under construction, is scheduled to make its debut for their August 30th, 2021 departure.

Viking is known for its elegance and modern design, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that this ship will just be as breathtaking as the rest of the cruise line’s fleet. It will come fully-equipped with an intimate three-deck vessel with an infinity pool and open-air sky bar on its Upper Deck along with a spa and fitness center.

“For many of our guests, Vietnam and Cambodia remain top destinations because of their significance in world history,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking. “We have led the river cruise industry with our fleet development and experiences that bring travelers closer to the cultures of the world for more than two decades.”

Hagan added, “This will be the most modern vessel on the Mekong and will feel like ‘home’ to our loyal Viking guests who are familiar with the comfortable design of our ships.”

With the journey at just a little over two weeks, travelers will get to explore the cultural treasures of Vietnam and Cambodia with 16 guided tours. Hotel stays in Hanoi, Siem Reap and Ho Chi Minh City bracket an eight-day Mekong cruise.

While on land, Viking guests can shop in Old Hanoi’s markets, explore the Khmer temple complex of Angkor Wat; visit Ta Prohm, where jungle vines embrace ancient ruins; and see the sights of Phnom Penh by cyclo rickshaw. The cruise portion affords visits to silk towns, fishing villages, monasteries, and floating markets.

Pricing starts at $5,299 per person, with discounted airfare from $1,199 per person. So while cruising is currently not an option for the Summer 2020 travel season because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it’s comforting to know that travelers can make their plans for their dream exotic getaways for next year. By then there’s a good chance that quarantine, lockdown, and social distancing will all be terms of the past. For now, Viking fans can tune in to Viking.TV for their destination insight videos for a sneak peeks of what they can expect to see on future cruises and trips.

When it comes to Viking, service, and comfort are key and just two of the reasons why so many guests come back for more Viking adventures year after year. Every cruise fare includes an outside stateroom, a complimentary shore excursion in each port of call, all onboard meals, and all port charges and government taxes. Guests also enjoy many complimentary amenities as part of their fare, including beer and wine with lunch and dinner service; alternative restaurant dining; free Wi-Fi; self-service laundry; access to the Thermal Suite in the LivNordic Spa; and 24-hour room service.
