Fully vaccinated? Plan A Vacation In Denmark

Denmark’s tourism marketing organization, VisitDenmark, made an announcement on June 4 that the country is officially reopening its borders to those American and UK visitors who are fully vaccinated.

Which vaccines are approved for Denmark?

American and British visitors must have received either two-dose or single-dose vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency at least 14 days prior to arrival in Denmark. Currently, approved vaccines include Moderna, Vaxzevria (also called Astra Zeneca), Comirnaty, Vaccine Janssen, Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer.

Travelers who are fully vaccinated no longer need to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test, or quarantine on arrival. However, unvaccinated children traveling with vaccinated parents, as well as pregnant or breastfeeding mothers will still be required to prevent proof of a negative PCR test taken no more than four days prior to arrival in Denmark.

Proof of vaccine

At present, Danish citizens are required to present a corona passport, proving they have been fully vaccinated, were previously infected but recovered, or tested negative for the virus within the past 72 hours. There are currently talks about possibly making this a requirement for all travelers, but no new protocols have yet been officially announced. At present, travelers must carry proof of vaccination when entering Denmark.

The relaxation of Denmark’s COVID-19 restrictions comes as several other European countries, including France, Greece and Spain, have also announced plans to welcome vaccinated visitors this summer.

What new experiences does Denmark have to offer?

Denmark has a number of new experiences to offer American and British travelers this summer. These include H.C. Andersen’s House, a sprawling, immersive museum dedicated to Hans Christian Andersen’s iconic fairy tales that will open on June 30 in his home town of Odense.

The new Marsh Tower will open in the UNESCO Wadden Sea National Park in June. The park is set on Denmark’s western coast and is renowned for its birdlife and an abundance of fresh oysters. The new tower rises 25 m (82 ft) above the flat marshlands and offers panoramic views across the area and all the way to the island of Romo to the sea.

Copenhagen is hosting WorldPride and EuroGames from August 12 -22, with events following the health and safety protocols at that time. Another great option for summer is the sustainable boat rental GoBoat, which has launched its open-air dock to host movie nights, music concerts and other events throughout the summer.

A number of excellent new hotels and restaurants are set to open for the summer in Denmark. One dining experience that shouldn’t be missed will be hosted at Tivoli Gardens, where Michelin-star pop-ups from Danish AOC and Faroese KOKS will be on offer. May 2020 saw the opening of a new food market, Toldboden Seasiden, with seven excellent restaurants to choose from. Meanwhile, a series of new sourdough bakeries have opened in Copenhagen, giving visitors even more delicious options to choose from.

If you have been fully vaccinated, make a plan to visit Denmark this summer to experience everything the country has to offer, including these tempting new options.
