Viking Cruises To Restart Limited Operations Out Of The UK

For those looking to get back into cruising, there’s good news. While many parts of Europe might be experiencing yet another lockdown ahead of the spring holiday season, Viking Cruises has just announced that their ships will sail for May. But here’s the thing: it’s only for UK residents. England’s Scenic Shores itinerary will set sail from Portsmouth on May 22, May 22, and June 5 for eight-day sailings. Here’s what you need to know.

While this might not be the best kind of news for cruise enthusiasts on this side of the pond, it’s at least an indication that things are moving forwards rather than backwards. And while cruising might not go back to full speed for this year, there’s hope that everyone will be back to doing what they love – and that’s cruising in complete luxury with Viking Cruises – by the end of 2021 and well into 2022.

Viking Cruises England Scenic Shores To Set Sail in May 2021

According to Viking Cruises, England’s Scenic Shores itinerary will set sail beginning in May onboard Viking’s newest ship, “The Viking Venus.” It’s also been noted that all other cruises before May 31 remain canceled and that the trips are only offered to UK residents.

For those who have sailed in the past, they know that cruises to the British Isles combine both urban adventures with the rural beauty of the British Isles. Just think of it this way: lush and hilly Highlands, legendary villages, thatched-roof houses and scores of castles.

“We welcome the UK Government’s support for the return of safe domestic cruises as an important component in the travel industry’s recovery,” Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking, said in a statement shared with Travel + Leisure on Tuesday. “We are in a position to restart operations quickly and to start sailing again in May because we have kept our ships crewed during warm lay-up throughout the past 12 months.”

All Viking Ships Have Viking Health and Security

As far as health concerns, the cruise line – which has one of the best reputations in the cruising industry – has been conducting non-invasive saliva PCR tests for crew every day for almost the past six months. The new measures will extend to guests once they are onboard their cruises. The ships now have new air purification systems and additional health checks, sanitization and social distancing measures for guests on board.

“With our new protocol enhancements in place, we believe there will be no safer way to travel the world than on a Viking voyage and we look forward to welcoming UK guests back on board very soon,” Hagen added.

Here’s one more thing cruisers must take note of: pre-registration for the cruise is currently only available to previous Viking sailors. More information about the cruises and reservations will open to all UK residents “in due course,” according to the press release.

And while this might be both good news and bad news for cruising enthusiasts, Viking Cruises is preparing new itinerates for 2022. The luxury cruise liner announced last month that they are launching a stunning new River Ship so can cruise the Nile. Viking Aton will be a state-of-the-art ship with the clean, elegant Scandinavian design for 82 guests in 41 staterooms.

It’s features include all outside staterooms with river views; spacious suites with two full-size rooms and verandas; a pool and sun deck with 360-degree views; Viking Lounge with floor-to-ceiling glass doors; and Viking’s revolutionary Aquavit Terrace ideal for al fresco dining and indoor/outdoor viewing along the Nile River.

It’s a comforting thought knowing Viking Cruises has always been a head of its class for many different reasons. The service and comfort are key and just two of the reasons why so many guests come back for more Viking adventures year after year. Every cruise fare includes an outside stateroom, a complimentary shore excursion in each port of call, all onboard meals, and all port charges and government taxes.
