Colibri Boutique Hotels celebrate its 20th anniversary

Based in beautiful and historic Tulum on the Mayan Riviera, Colibri Boutique Hotels is an original, independent hotel group, celebrating 20 years of warm hospitality, while reflecting on its past and building for the future.

The hotel group was founded in 2004 with its first hotel, Mezzanine, known for its spectacular views, beachfront access and authentic Thai cuisine. Two years later, in 2006, the group opened the festive La Zebra. Meanwhile, this hotel was named after local legends about a shipwreck and – you probably guessed it – a zebra.

Fast forward to 2008, and the hotel group opened El Pez, a hotel nestling in a cove and renowned for its front-row seat to Tulum’s biodynamic diversity. Moreover, in 2014, Mi Amor opened its doors as a place for couples to connect themselves in oceanfront splendor.

The hotel group’s latest property, Lula, opened its doors in the fall of 2023, as a welcoming space for guests seeking wellness, without forgoing other vacation indulgences. Rounding out its portfolio is the Nicaraguan-based Yemaya Reefs, nestling on the secluded and beautiful Little Corn Island. Meanwhile, all of the hotels are part of the Small Luxury Hotels of The World.

Hotel group’s core value is to ‘surprise and delight’ its guests

Brendon Leach, CEO of Colibri Boutique Hotels said in a statement:

We started this company for a singular reason: to bring the beauty we had discovered in Tulum to the rest of the world. Our core value to “surprise and delight” our guests has been our North Star and has guided all of our actions for the past 20 years. This vision has led to our constant innovation in the areas of hospitality, eco practice, and staff retention.

Moreover, the hotel group sees its longevity as a strength, as it continues to operate through consumer trends, shifting governmental regimes and the always-present climate change.

Meanwhile, in 2025 the boutique hotel group plans to roll out a comprehensive wellness program at all its properties. Moreover, the group also plans to introduce some additional eco practices to complement its iconic We Care program.
