Test out a ‘hygge desk’ in Norway for digital nomads to visit for free
According to Opera, a desk job in Norway just got cozier with the introduction of the hygge desk. While embracing the spirit of uncluttered simplicity, Opera invites ten lucky testers to try out a hygge desk in Norway.
Hygge is a Scandinavian lifestyle centered around coziness, simplicity and contentment, which is the foundation of the Opera browser.
This is what the Norwegian browser company, Opera, has placed on the table, as it seeks to promote its web services. Moreover, the company is seeking “hygga testers” to try out its hygge desk, while living in the most stunning locations in Norway.
What does this involve?
If you are the lucky one to try out the hygge desk, you will find yourself immersed in a heartwarming six-day stay in a private cabin, with flights and ground transportation included. During the stay, testers will try out the hygge desk to find out just how productive the right online environment can be.
Jan Standal, VP at Opera, said:
We’re developing a browser that captures the Scandinavian essence of a simple, unassuming life – one that leaves stress behind and helps our users focus on what matters the most.
We’re used to hygge in Scandinavia, but now we want our worldwide community to understand what that concept means in practice.
What is ‘hygge’ and how does it fit?
Opera describes it as follows:
A hygge desk is one that allows you to leave anything annoying or emotionally overwhelming behind. It accentuates both the pleasure that comes from browsing and the presence of the smallest, coziest elements at hand – like warm lighting or an epic view of nature.
As part of its promotion, Opera has released a helpful video with a Norwegian guide demonstrating exactly what is and isn’t hygge, while describing a cozy, contented mood that is brought about through comfort and friendliness.
Founding principle of ‘hygge’
Meanwhile, the founding principle of the hygge promotion is to demonstrate that the Opera browser, used by only around 2.5 percent of web surfers, is embracing hygge itself. It promises “private and peaceful browsing, free from interruptions,” that it says is perfectly aligned with the principle of hygge.
For 10 lucky winners, it means a six-day visit to one of five locations in Norway, staying in a private cabin and experiencing the best of the local area.
How to apply to become a hygge tester
Specific dates are put aside for people to apply to become hygge testers as follows:
From 18-23 March, hygge testers will be invited to Lysefjord, a stunning fjord location just east of Stavanger. Besides browsing from a hygge desk, lucky digital nomads will be able to enjoy hiking, bathing in waterfalls, and boating excursions.
From 25-30 March, the hygge desk will move to Lofoten, where digital nomads can enjoy picturesque fjords, visit traditional fishing villages and have the chance to see the Northern Lights. In the same period, the hygge desk at Norwefjell will also welcome visitors to its ski resorts and peaceful surroundings.
From 1-6 April when Bodø and Ålesund’s hygge desks will be open for business. Located in northern Norway, Bodø is known for its stone-age history and moose population, while Ålesund in the west is famed for its art nouveau architecture.
To enter to be a hygge tester, hopeful digital nomads can apply on the Opera website by describing why they need a hygge desk. Meanwhile, Opera favors more creative applications, so hopefuls should consider writing a poem about their working life, or sending a picture of their non-hygge desk to be in with a chance.
Applications are open from now until the end of February 2025. Meanwhile, winners will be announced on or around March 5. The package will include round-trip flights, ground transportation and your entire six-day stay in one of the private cabins.
