Viking Floats Out Its Newest Nile River Ship, the Viking Thoth

Viking has that announced its newest Nile River ship, the 82-guest Viking Thoth, has been “floated out.” This event marks a major construction milestone as it is the first time that the vessel has touched water.

The Viking Thoth is expected to be delivered in October 2025, at which time it joins the company’s growing fleet of cutting-edge ships designed to navigate the Nile River. Guests on board Viking’s newest Nile River ship will sail the popular 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary.

Hagen added that “With two new ships, the Viking Thoth and the Viking Amun, debuting in 2025, we are very proud to continue expanding our elegant fleet and introducing more curious travelers to this phenomenal region.”

Viking Floats Out Newest Nile River Ship

Viking Thoth’s traditional float out ceremony was held at Massara shipyard in Cairo. This milestone event signifies that the ship is moving into its final phase of construction. The vessel is now ready for its end construction and interior build-out.

The Viking Thoth hosts 82 guests in 41 stateroom and features the state-of-the-art Scandinavian design that accent all of Viking’s award-winning river and ocean ships. The Viking Thoth is a sister ship to the Viking Osiris, the Viking Aton, the Viking Sobek, the Viking Hathor, and the Viking Amun.

As such, the Viking Thoth features several aspects familiar to Viking guests, such as a distinctive square bow and an indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace. Other ships in Viking’s Egypt fleet include the Viking Ra and the MS Antares.

Viking plans to welcome four new ships in Egypt in the next two years in addition to the Viking Thoth. By 2027 Viking will have 12 vessels on the Nile River.

Viking’s Pharaohs & Pyramids Itinerary

Viking’s Pharaohs & Pyramids is a magnificent 12-day journey with guests kicking off their adventure with a three-night stay at a first-class hotel in Cairo.

There guests can tour iconic sites such as the Great Pyramids of Giza, the necropolis of Sakkara, the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, or the Grand Egyptian Museum.

Next guests fly to Luxor where they visit the Temples of Luxor and Karnak before boarding a Viking river ship for an eight-day roundtrip cruise on the Nile River.

The cruise includes visits to the tomb of Nefertari in the Valley of the Queens and the tomb of Tutankhamen in the Valley of the Kings. There are also excursions to the Temple of Khnum in Esna, the Dendera Temple complex in Qena, the temples at Abu Simbel, and the

High Dam in Aswan

Guests are also invited to tour a colorful Nubian village, where they can experience firsthand a traditional elementary school. This stunning journey concludes with a flight back to Cairo for a final night in the ancient city.
