Just about every show or film has a place where the characters hang out. They meet with their friends to grab a drink and develop the plot. The gang from ‘Friends‘ spent most of their time at Central Perk. While there is no “real” coffee house, a pop-up replica occasionally makes a debut. Click HERE for more on that experience. However, there are real places you can go for a pop culture pub crawl of bars from movies and tv.
Cheers from ‘Cheers’
Formerly known as the Bull & Finch Pub, located in Boston’s Beacon Hill, was the “face” of Cheers. The exterior was shown in the title sequence. The inside, is different from what you see Sam, Diane, Coach, Carla, Norm, and Cliff in. The show was filmed on a lot in Los Angeles, but the Bull & Finch Pub renamed itself Cheers in 2002. Another bar was opened with a replica of the interior of Cheers in Fanueil Hall, Boston’s downtown tourist hub.
Coyote Ugly from ‘Coyote Ugly’
It has become a chain, but the original Coyote Ugly is found at 153 First Avenue in New York. However, the bar itself just serves the inspiration for the name of the film. The actual bar was modeled after Hogs & Heifers on corner of West 13th Street in the Big Apple.
The South Boston Bar from ‘Good Will Hunting’
Head to 195 L St, Boston, Massachusetts and you’ll find Woody’s L Street Tavern. The homey bar served as the backdrop for one of film’s best scenes. How ’bout them apples? There are locals that tend to be wary of tourists, so act like you’ve been there before .
New York Bar from ‘Lost in Translation’
It’s Bill Murray’s haunt in the film. You can enjoy the ambiance in real life location at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Tokyo, Shinjuku, Nishishinjuku. Look for it under its real name, New York Grill.
Bridges Restaurant and Bar from ‘Mrs.Doubtfire’
While it is more of a fancy-pants restaurant, you can still grab a drink where Robin Williams was unmasked as Mrs.Doubtfire. It is located in Danville, California.
