Halloween Travel Idea – Spend the Night in Dracula’s Castle

I love to travel over the holidays, but they are typically the worst times travel as far as crowds and expense go. Everyone wants to be home for the holidays, but this year I’m dying to try this Halloween travel idea – spending the night in Dracula’s castle!

If you’re in Romania and want to enjoy a rare experience, Bran Castle will ope the doors to overnight guests on Halloween. This marks the first time anyone has spent the night in the Transylvanian castle since 1948. Thanks to Airbnb, guest will enjoy a lavish reception with food, including the chicken paprikash described in the book, and wine before being left to fend for themselves in red velvet-trimmed coffins for the night.

You may remember Bran Castle for it’s historical connection to Vlad the Impaler. The prince had a penchant for using stakes to murder his victims which inspired Bram Stoker’s tale of Count Dracula. The tourist attraction is a must-see, but this an extremely rare opportunity.

Those who wish to spend the night in the creepy but gorgeous fortress will have some competition for one of the coveted spots. The Airbnb opportunity requires hopefuls to submit a mini essay detailing what they’d say to Count Dracula if they had an encounter with the famous vampire. Winners will be whisked away to Romania and allowed to stay overnight in the castle tucked away in the Carpathian Mountains.

Would you stay the night in Dracula’s Castle? If you can’t stomach the thought of actually sleeping in coffins, guests also have the option for a bed. As to whether or not Dracula will make an appearance… contest host and descendant of Bram Stoker, Dacre Stoker, teased, “Did he really die at end of the novel when he was stabbed with knife? Bram leaves the question ambiguous. But if he’s still floating around, he would make an appearance.”
