Sleeping and travel aren’t something that generally go together well, and I can’t personally count the times I’ve thought – I need a vacation from my vacation. It can be challenge, but with these tips on sleep and travel, you can learn how to rest on vacation.
Time
Making the time to relax is just part of the battle for rest. Allow yourself plenty of time to score extra zzzs by planning all your extra activities later in the afternoon. Having a set time you need to wake up can stress you out with worry. Beyond ample time to sleep, allow yourself several time frames throughout the day to relax. Indulge in a massage, read a book, soak in the tub, or take a mind-clearing walk. Allowing your brain to take a vacation will help you unwind.

Creature Comforts
Sometimes, you just want to crawl into your own bed. Personally, I am a creature of habit and I need my pillow, my blanket, and my noises. So, make sure to bring some homey touches to your accommodations. Toting a huge blanket or replicating your bed might not be possible, but you can easily pack your pillowcase or a favorite sheet. Bring your sound machine or use an app on your smartphone to get the sound just right. Bringing my kids’ favorite pillow on road trips has been a sanity-saver!
Essential Oils
It may be a trend, but for good reason. Essential oils are booming thanks to their holistic and effective properties. Lavender, sandalwood, bergamot, vetiver, cedarwood are all great oils for sleep. You can find them at your local drug stores, supermarkets, and online. Try experimenting before you leave, at least a week in advance.
