First, in 2021, JetBlue launched flights from New York JFK to London as its first European connection. Next, the low-cost airline released news of a direct service between the Big Apple and Paris. Now, the airline has announced a new, nonstop service between New York and Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Speaking of the new connection, USA Today quotes JetBlue CEO Robin Hayes as saying:

Just like we’re doing in London and Paris, we will bring fares down and improve the experience for customers flying between the US and Amsterdam. Our formula of combining a customer-centric experience and everyday low fares isn’t something you find in Europe.

The option of nonstop flights between New York’s JFK and Amsterdam’s Schiphol airports is welcome news for travelers, as JetBlue is renowned for keeping costs down while providing excellent service.

When will the new direct flight launch?

While the airline says the new direct flights will take off “late this summer,” it is yet to announce an official schedule or fares for the JFK and Schiphol service. In fact, as yet, no flights appear on the airline’s booking website. However, according to a statement from JetBlue, tickets will be available “in the coming weeks.”

If the new route does launch in late summer, this is an ideal time for European travel as the closer it gets to the off-season, flights and hotels are usually cheaper.

However, one item of news that was confirmed in JetBlue’s press release is that the airline will fly their Airbus A321 Long Range aircraft for the new route. This particular plane offers 24 Mint suites, which is the airline’s business class. It will also feature 114 seats, many with additional legroom. Of course, with a seven-hour flight, extra comfort is welcome.

As yet, the frequency of the flights has not been revealed, but it will likely be a popular option at peak times like summer. Meanwhile, peak seasons in Amsterdam are from May to August.

While currently, the airline will only fly between New York and Amsterdam, plans are afoot to expand the service to Boston Logan International Airport in the future.

Meanwhile, flights between New York and Paris are set to launch on June 29, 2023.

As the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam has many popular attractions, including its quaint architecture, pretty canals and iconic red light district. The city is also renowned for its cannabis coffee houses. As for culture, a number of fascinating museums are on offer, including the Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank House and more. One of the best ways to explore the city is by bicycle, as Amsterdam is well set up for this mode of travel.

If the new JetBlue service launches in time, the city features the Grachtenfestival, around the second week of August. The event runs for ten days and sees many boats in the canals, as well as music and performances.
