From next year, travelers will have the opportunity to take train ride along the Italian Riviera. As train travel continues to return to popularity, Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, a Belmond Train, is set to take passengers on a brand new journey. Heading through Europe from June 2024, the train will take its passengers in style from Paris to Portofino. Along the way, the journey takes in the Italian Riviera and ends up with a luxury stay in Portofino.

As travelers become more aware of climate change, train travel is making a major comeback. On the one side, high-speed trains take travelers swiftly through Europe. Meanwhile, another option making a comeback is sleeper trains, including the iconic Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, A Belmond Train.

According to Travel + Leisure, this new, luxury train journey is set to leave the station in June of 2024. In a statement from the company, it was confirmed that the train will travel from Paris to Portofino via the Italian Riviera. Moreover, this makes the first time the company’s trains have journeyed the region in its 40-year history. The statement read:

This new, annual overnight journey will see the train winding through the French countryside and along the coastline of the Mediterranean Riviera, concluding at Splendido, A Belmond Hotel, Portofino, where guests will reside for two nights.

The three-night train journey is set to depart from Paris on June 20, where guests can travel in their onboard rooms. Meanwhile, each room boasts art deco touches that take guests back in time to the golden age of rail travel.

Moreover, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express has been upgraded to add eight new suites giving guests a choice of three room categories. Top of the list is the Grand Suites, each themed on a famous European city. Among them, Paris, Venice, Istanbul, Vienna, Prague and Budapest are well represented in the accommodations.

Dining and entertainment on the luxury train

Heading through Dijon, Lyon and Avignon, guests can relax in the piano lounge to enjoy live entertainment or enjoy a meal in the restaurant cars. According to the company, each course is paired with handpicked wines from its private collection.

Each morning, guests will awake to a delicious breakfast in the privacy of their cabin, sipping coffee as the beautiful views pass by. Among the scenes to enjoy from the windows will be Ventimiglia, Savona and Genoa.

Meanwhile, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express will pull into the Santa Margherita Ligure station where guests will check into the Splendido, A Belmond Hotel for two nights. During the stay, guests can experience an exclusive film screening under the stars at the Piazzetta in Portofino.

How much does the journey cost?

As for the prices, the luxury train trip starts from $8,525 per person. All rates are based on two guests sharing a Historic Cabin on the train. Moreover, rates include a Garden View room at the Splendido.
