Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, is known for building the best of everything, from towering skyscrapers to artificial islands. Meanwhile, the city has also put its efforts into making its airport an experience in itself for incoming and outgoing visitors. According to a recent study by AllClear Travel Insurance, Dubai International Airport (DXB) is the most luxurious airport in the world.

Dubai International Airport is lauded as the most luxurious in the world

The city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates is well known for its luxury shopping and modern skyline. A part of that skyline is the towering Burj Khalifa, an 830 m (2723 ft) tower, which stands tall over the other ultramodern architecture. At its feet is the Dubai Fountain, with water jets and lights choreographed to music.

Just off the city’s shore is Atlantis, The Palm, a resort set on artificial islands, with water and marine-animal parks. Meanwhile, the recently built Museum of the Future is the latest addition to the city’s wonders.

However, besides all this, it turns out the city and emirate also hosts the most luxurious airport in the world. According to a study by AllClear Travel Insurance, Dubai has focused on making the airport an experience in itself for travelers. It was declared the most luxurious airport mainly due to the more than 70 luxury hotels within a three-mile radius of the terminal.

In the study, AllClear Travel Insurance wrote:

Dubai as a destination is well known across the world for luxury and wealth, so it’s not too surprising that the airport ranks as the most luxurious on the globe.

The airport is the fastest-growing aviation hub in the world, and it even has its own 5-star hotel located inside the airport itself. With zen gardens, an outdoor swimming pool, a gym, cinemas, and a bounty of restaurants – this is one airport that will certainly leave you feeling refreshed ahead of jumping on your flight.

Other airports in the running

  • A minimum of 10 lounges
  • The number of designer shops available at the airport
  • The number of luxury hotels in the surrounding area
  • Those where travelers could find perks like Champagne and caviar before boarding their flight

Next in line is London Heathrow Airport (LHR) due to its impressive number of lounges and selection of luxury shops.

Coming in at number 3 is Qatar’s Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha, which recently added an exclusive new Louis Vuitton restaurant and lounge.

Meanwhile, Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) in France came in at number 4 followed by Sydney Airport (SYD) in Australia in fifth place.
