Sullivan’s Castle Island is gearing up for its March 1, 2025, season opener and has some good news for patrons. Boston’s beloved family-run icon, Sullivan’s, has been awarded the 2025 James Beard America’s Classic award while it celebrates more than seven decades of culinary excellence.

The iconic family eatery, Sullivan’s, is a Boston institution and family-owned landmark since 1951 and is proud to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious 2025 James Beard America’s Classics Award.

This distinguished honor is reserved for regional establishments, celebrated for their quality food, local character and enduring appeal. These are qualities that have defined Sullivan’s for more than seven decades.

Sullivan’s was originally founded as a hot dog stand by Dan Sullivan Sr. in 1951 and, since that time, has grown into a seasonal landmark that resonates with the heart and soul of Boston.

Meanwhile, the restaurant has been operating continuously for more than 70 years. Spanning four generations of the Sullivan family, Sullivan’s has evolved into a beloved gathering place for locals and visitors alike.
