Can you handle heights? If yes, Ronda in Andalucía, Spain has a new, exciting tourist attraction, the Camino del Desiladero, or Ronda Gorge Trail. Here, brave travelers can follow a path, suspended on the canyon walls, while surrounded by gorgeous landscapes. We previously wrote about the scary Caminito del Rey in El Chorro, but now Ronda is stepping up with an equally vertigo-inducing adventure.

Walk the Camino del Desfiladero – Ronda Gorge Trail

Southern Spain is always coming up with great activities for its many visitors and this one is a doozie. Not for the faint of heart, the Ronda Gorge Trail takes brave folk along a suspended pathway on the gorge walls. You might not want to look down, but looking at normal eye level, you can view incredible scenery.

The Camino del Desfiladero de Ronda, or Ronda Gorge Trail, opened on Saturday, April 13, and even has its own official website. This makes it easy to book a ticket on the new, dizzying pathway.

The first phase is over with more to come

In the initial phase, an existing path running from the Plaza del Campillo to the base of the Puente Nuevo (New Bridge) has been revamped and equipped with safety measures. The town has created several viewpoints along the pathway, plus a building dubbed the Casa Manolillo has been converted into a visitor center for Ronda and the surrounding area.

Meanwhile, the second phase will allow a crossing underneath the New Bridge and pathways in the rest of the gorge. This pathway will lead to the exit at the San Miguel hermitage. Meanwhile, this section of the pathway will be more complex and will involve the installation of a 500-meter-long (1,640-feet) suspended platform to take visitors across the entire gorge.

Meanwhile, the Camino del Desfiladero de Ronda, or Ronda Gorge Trail, is ideal for experienced hikers and families looking for a unique and exciting experience. Speaking of the new Ronda Gorge Trail, the town’s Councilor for Tourism, Ángel Martínez, said in a statement:

We have launched a website through which visitors can learn everything about this trail, as well as book your place to access it. It is available in seven languages: Spanish, English, German, French, Japanese, Italian and Dutch.
