Paris has long been known as the City of Love but this year, it has slipped down the list of historic cities in Europe. A new study was made ahead of Valentine’s Day that reveals a new European City of Love. Read on to find out which cities lovers are searching in a last-minute booking for February 14.

New City of Love in Europe and it’s not Paris!

 

Couples are making last-minute bookings to take their significant others on a romantic trip for Valentine’s Day. A new study performed by the global travel booking platform, Omio has revealed the most popular historic cities romantic travelers are searching for this year.

By analyzing Google search data, it was revealed that there has been a significant increase in searches for Belgrade, Vilnius and Ankara in the weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day.

So, where is the new City of Love?

1. Belgrade, Serbia

It was revealed that online searches for “hotels in Belgrade” have increased by 203 percent in the weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day. According to the data, it looks like lovers will be jetting off to the historic Serbian capital to celebrate Love Month.

For those romantic couples with a history buff, they will truly enjoy all that Belgrade offers, from the Belgrade Fortress to the impressive National Museum and more.

2. Vilnius, Lithuania

Vilnius in Lithuania is known as one of the most beautiful cities in the Baltic region. This gives Vilnius as good a reason as any to become one of the most romantic cities. However, a surge in online searches for “hotels in Vilnius” is what placed the city on Omio’s list. Moreover, the last month has seen searches soar by 142 percent as romantic lovers search for their last-minute stay.

Among the attractions are the Gediminas Tower or the Vilnius Cathedral, said to be the most beautiful cathedrals in the world.

3. Ankara, Turkey

Turkey’s capital, Ankara, comes in third place as the most romantic city this year after searches for “hotels in Ankara” has seen a 98 percent increase in the last 30 days. Meanwhile, the city is rich with history and culture offering many things to do and see, including historic sites,  castles, museums and bazaars.

4. Tallinn, Estonia

Searches for “hotels in Tallinn” have surged by 70 percent in the month leading up to Valentine’s Day. Meanwhile, the undeniably charming city boasts ancient churches, medieval constructions, and palaces.

5. Ljubljana, Slovenia

The capital of Slovenia is a nature lover’s dream and after searches for “hotels in Ljubljana” have increased by 49 percent, it looks like couples seeking nature and fresh air for Valentine’s Day.

Couples can enjoy romantic strolls along the river, picnic in the city’s many green spaces, or admire the stunning architecture.

The balance of cities in the list that have made the top 10 where couples are seeking to escape to celebrate their love this year include Lisbon, Dublin, Madrid, Athens and Rome. These cities provide the perfect backdrop for a romantic getaway, with stunning architecture, rich culture, a selection of sights and attractions, plus delicious food, are the ideal combination for a Valentine’s adventure.
