The Best Character Meets at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Character meet-and-greets at Disney are great for the young and young-at-heart, but nothing beats watching the little ones light up during these experiences! On a recent trip to Disney’s Animal Kingdom with my granddaughters, some of the most magical memories were made meeting Minnie and Mickey at Adventurer’s Outpost.

This Isn’t Just Any Character Meet

This isn’t just any character meeting; here on Discovery Island, guests will see the famous duo wearing safari clothing. It’s also one of the only spots in all of Walt Disney World where you’ll meet both Minnie and Mickey together.

FastPass is Available and Recommended

FastPass is available and recommended. If you don’t have a FastPass, go early in the morning for the best chance at a short wait time. The waiting area is air conditioned, so if you do have a FastPass, schedule it during the heat of the day for respite. If you missed out, don’t worry: the standby line is mostly indoors. As you wait, you’ll see mementos, treasures, and pictures from Minnie and Mickey’s travels, as well as a hidden Mickey for those on the hunt! Be aware that you could be waiting for about 45 minutes to meet the characters. (Also, Disney provides two identical meeting rooms to help move things along quicker, so if you see some guests going in a different way than you, you’re not missing out on anything!)

Meet Other Character Unique To The Animal Kingdom

Once you’re done here, you might want to meet other characters unique to the Animal Kingdom. You’ll find King Louie and Baloo from Jungle Book over by Flights of Wonder. Board the Wildlife Express over to Rafiki’s Planet Watch where you can meet Rafiki, Chip, Dale, and Jiminy Cricket! That’s one area of the park that is often overlooked, so you probably won’t run up against large crowds. Meet Donald Duck near the Dinosaur attraction; Dug and Russell from Up! at the Explorers’ Clubhouse; and Flik from A Bug’s Life also on Discovery Island. Pocahontas and Tarzan move around, but can often be found at the Character Landing. Goofy and Pluto can be found at Dinoland U.S.A. Service Station and they are really fun to interact with!

All photos taken throughout the park by professional photographers show up in the My Disney Experience App. You can then download these “PhotoPass” pictures by purchasing the Memory Maker package. It’s best to buy this before your trip since the price goes up after the fact.

While the park closes at 9:00 p.m., Mickey and Minnie are only available at the Outpost until 7:30 p.m.

To get to Adventurer’s Outpost, in particular, go through the Oasis and over the bridge to Discovery Island. Veer to the right, following signs for Asia. The Outpost is the last building on the right before you cross the bridge into Asia.

Who are your favorite characters to meet at Disney? Which has been the most unique or memorable?
