Visiting The Palm Beaches: 5 Top Places For Casual Eats

For many first-time visitors, Palm Beach County is a place that people come for the beautiful beaches, tranquil waters, pulsating nightlife and some of the best museums you’ll find in the state. After all, they don’t call it the Art and Cultural capital of Florida for nothing. But Palm Beach County is also a place where you’ll find the best “grown-up” food with a long list of bars and restaurants that make their menus look like delectable art forms. If you are looking for a few casual eats in between your beach and art museum visits, we’ve got some for you right here.

Grease

If you are looking for a casual, sports-oriented bar right at the heart of the Clematis nightlife, Grease is where it’s at. The restaurant boasts specialty burgers and countless craft brews and whiskeys, plus live music. It’s a great stop for a family dinner or if you are looking to come a little later in the evening, a good place to mingle with the locals. It’s a classic neighborhood spot that looks and feels like it came out of New York City’s Meat Packing District. And yes, everyone agrees: Grease has the best burgers in Palm Beach County. One of the best lip-biting burgers is the Grease Beast. There’s also the Grease Pecan Bacon Cheese or the home town hero, the Palm Beach Illustrated A-List, complete with fresh mozzarella, red and yellow tomatoes, red onions, pesto, and balsamic glaze.

Guanabanas

A little north of West Palm Beach is her older (actually make that more experienced) sister, Jupiter where you can find Guanabanas, a charismatic waterfront restaurant, and bar. If everything looks and tastes like it’s fresh, it’s because it is. The restaurant purchases their seafood directly from Florida fisherman to ensure that it is caught within sustainably manages fisheries. You can’t get any more local than that, right? Locals love the roasted corn and chicken chowder soup for their ‘first wave.’ The Floridian fritters (local shrimp fritters served with sweet Jalapeno Mustard sauce) is a must along with the Tequila Lime Shrimp or the fresh fish tacos. It should almost be illegal to visit Florida and not have fish tacos.

U-Tiki Beach

U-Tiki Beach is the place to be, regardless of what day of the week it is. The restaurant boasts a menu full of Caribbean food and drinks in a casual, island setting with both deck and beach seating, plus incredible water views. If you get lucky enough, you might also get a table with a view of Jupiter’s iconic lighthouse. The menu consists of fresh oyster and seafood options, plus an assortment of fresh sushi. Check out the BBQ shrimp flatbread or if you are feeling courageous enough, try the Jambalaya shrimp and chicken that you will be dreaming of for months to come.

Johan Joe’s

Could you imagine a little piece of Sweden in the heart of Palm Beach County’s downtown district? Yep, you read that right: Johan Joe’s exists to brighten up your day with world-class Swedish coffee and an assortment of Swedish pancakes, herring salads, and sandwiches that are served with both hold and cold drinks in a sleek modern dining room. It’s a one-of-a-kind café that will make you feel like you are sitting in comfortable and cozy (but ultra-sophisticated) Stockholm and not at the IKEA cafeteria in nearby Sunrise. Avocado lovers will love the Swedish style avocado toast, which comes with homemade muesli, dill cream cheese, red onion, tomato, avocado, and fresh dill. Top it off with smoked salmon for an authentic Swedish-style breakfast experience. The princess cake is also a must.

Mazie’s

Located on South Dixie Highway and in the West Palm Beach Antique Row Art and Design District, Mazie’s can be described best with just one word: eclectic. A local favorite, the restaurant boasts an innovative menu and has a great, friendly neighborhood atmosphere. Everything from the tasty smoked trout melt to the lavish pile of delicious buttermilk pancakes will make you want to return for more. It’s also got more than just your Jewish grandma’s kitchen favorites. Check out the Swordfish Schnitzel (complete with Brussels kraut, fried egg, and anchovies) or the beets, poppy seed and ricotta pierogies. An added bonus: the menu also has vegetarian-friendly and gluten-free options.
