Since the pandemic, many people are changing their lives to become digital nomads – traveling to foreign lands and working along the way. However, being digital nomad on a cruise ship doesn’t sound promising. Unless you have a big budget, most ships typically offer small, cramped cabins and a notoriously spotty Internet connection. Why, then, would anyone choose to be a digital nomad on a cruise ship? It turns out Miray Cruises is launching a new kind of cruise ship for remote workers to travel the world.

The Turkish cruise line, Miray Cruises, is remodeling its cruise ship MV Gemini to be longer-term floating home, particularly for digital nomads. Meanwhile, the ship will set sail in the fall of 2023, visiting every continent throughout its journey. Moreover, it will accommodate 1,000 passengers.

The company has gone to great lengths to adapt the cruise ship to meet the needs of remote workers. While other ships have spotty Internet, MV Gemini will have high-speed Wi-Fi throughout. Meanwhile, the ship offers a well-equipped business center, meeting rooms, offices, and a business lounge and library.

Moreover, MV Gemini is equipped with a 24-hour hospital offering medical visits at no extra charge. On top of this, passengers will enjoy spacious cabins, along with onboard community-building initiatives. In other words, the cruise ship is the perfect hot spot in the middle of the ocean.

Besides the business-related offers, passengers can also expect the normal cruise amenities, including a wellness center, swimming pool, sundeck, spa, auditorium and salon.

Where will MV Gemini go?

Due to its extended cruises, longer stops will be made at various ports throughout the journey. In fact, out of 375 planned ports, passengers will enjoy 208 overnight stops, giving them the chance to explore each destination.

As for its destinations, a better question is, “Where won’t it go?” Bearing in mind the 130,000-mile sail, the ship stops at hundreds of ports. In fact, 135 countries are included in the itinerary on seven continents. In fact, the digital nomad cruise is the ultimate around-the-world voyage.

Included in the itinerary are several ports throughout the Caribbean. Meanwhile, MV Gemini will also sail the full South American coastline, then up the west coast of the US before visiting Hawaii and Alaska. The ship will stop at several ports throughout the Caribbean, sail the entire coastline of South America, and up the west coast of the United States before hitting both Hawaii and then Alaska.

The next destination is Asia, with stops in Japan and South Korea before heading to Southeast Asia. From there, MV Gemini will visit Australia and New Zealand before passing India and sailing the entire coastline of Africa on its way to Europe and the Mediterranean.

What is the cost of the cruise?

As there is a range to choose from, cruises can range from affordable to expensive, depending on the location and level of luxury required. Meanwhile, it is not a cheap vacation but could end up costing less than life at home.

The cheapest cabin is a standard inside cabin, measuring 130 sq ft, which costs $30,000 per person, per year. This works out at approximately $2,500 per month, lower than the average rent in major US cities like New York and Los Angeles. Meanwhile, as the cruise is all-inclusive, remote workers will have no grocery or utility bills as they have at home.

Meanwhile, the largest cabin is a 322 sq ft balcony room at $110,000 per person per year. However, financing options are available, but the cruise will require a $45,000 down payment to sail.

What is the catch for digital nomads on MV Gemini?

While the myriad destinations and amenities are pretty straightforward, there is one major catch. Passengers must commit to the entire journey of three solid years.

Meanwhile, the ship sets sail from Istanbul on November 1, 2023, giving little time for passengers to get their affairs in order. However, if you have three years to spare, this is the ultimate around-the-world cruise for remote workers.
