New Jersey Farm Recreates Iconic Tulip Blooms Of The Netherlands
Holland Ridge Farms and its iconic tulip blooms
Not only does Holland Ridge Farms offer 8 million tulips, but they also have a 100-foot traditional Dutch windmill and some delicious Dutch Treats. The 100-foot windmill is a new addition this year and will truly make the experience authentic.
Strolling the rows of colorful blooming tulips on the 3,000-acre farm reveals shades of pink, yellow, orange, red and violet on the 8 million tulips, consisting of around 100 varieties and what makes it even better, visitors can pick the beautiful flowers.
U-Pick Tulips Spring Spectacular
Spokesperson Patrick Marini told Travel + Leisure:
Be ready to be amazed—and also be ready to pick. We provide the buckets, and you don’t need anything to cut them. To pick, all you do is twist and pull.
Meanwhile, the farms are located in New Jersey, around 90 minutes south of New York City or an hour northeast of Philadelphia in Monmouth County. While this may seem an unusual location for such a spectacular floral display, they are an ode to the family of Dutch immigrants that own the farms, led by Casey Jansen, Sr., who has been dubbed the Dutch Walt Disney for turning his dream of sharing the Netherlands with the US. Meanwhile, Marini added:
When you visit the farm, it truly feels like you’re in the Netherlands. From wooden shoes to stroopwafels and actual Dutch employees wandering around … not only do we plant the most tulips, but we also plant the most varieties.
Dutch Dream Windmill
“We think this will be one of New Jersey’s newest icons,” Marini added, saying that it will be “one of the most breathtaking views in the whole state” as visitors can climb to the top to view the spring co9lors from above. Meanwhile, Marini explained that the name was chosen because its signifies the owners’ journey from Holland to the US, and what he has been able to accomplish since.
The new Dutch windmill will open to the public from April 16. From the following Thursday through Sunday, Holland Ridge Farms will host Dutch Fest, by offering traditional food, games, and culture.
