As fans of soccer know, Qatar will be hosting the FIFA World Cup in November and December this year. However, the question is whether travelers can enter the country, whether attending the event or on vacation. Read on to find out the latest requirements for visiting Qatar.

Traveling to Qatar post-pandemic

The peninsula Arab country of Qatar consists mostly of desert, with a Persian Gulf shoreline of beaches and dunes. On that coast, the capital, Doha, is known for its futuristic skyscrapers and ultramodern architecture.

FIFA World Cup 2022

Besides being a fascinating travel destination, Qatar is hosting the FIFA World Cup this year from November 20 to December 18. As the event will attract many people, it is important to know the latest travel regulations for visiting Qatar following the pandemic.

Entry requirements for Qatar

Qatar is officially open to travelers, whether on vacation or attending the FIFA World Cup. Meanwhile, all visitors are required to provide a negative PCR test, taken in the last 48 hours, or a Rapid Antigen test, valid for 24 hours prior to departure. However, it is important to note that Rapid Antigen self-tests are not accepted. Negative test results are required from all travelers, regardless of age or vaccination status.

All travelers are required to register with Ehteraz, the Ministry of Public Health’s pre-registration platform, at least three days prior to arrival. They are also required to download the Ehteraz app and activate it on arrival in Qatar.

Moreover, travelers are also required to complete an undertaking and acknowledgment form prior to arrival in the country. This form can be found on the Ministry of Public Health website, including the pre-registration platform and airline online booking form.

Whether attending a World Cup match or not, travelers will also be required to apply for a Hayya card from November 1, 2022, onwards. Currently, only match ticket holders can apply. Finally, travelers may have to pass through thermal screening or temperature checks on arrival in the country.

Can unvaccinated travelers visit Qatar?

Yes, unvaccinated travelers can visit Qatar. However, they are required to provide a negative PCR test certificate, valid for 48 hours. Alternatively, a Rapid Antigen test certificate, valid for 24 hours prior to departure is acceptable.

While it is now considered safe to travel to Qatar, travelers are recommended to take out travel insurance. Moreover, the policy must provide sufficient medical coverage while overseas.

Requirements for attending the FIFA World Cup

Those travelers attending the FIFA World Cup will be required to apply for a Hayya card, which is a form of ID required to enter the country during the event. The card offers free access to public transport on match days. However, ensure you apply early to avoid delays and visit the Hayya portal website for the latest information.
