Bang, fizzle, pop! That is the sound of your favorite fireworks exploding and raining down over your July 4th celebration. As travelers and adventure seekers, it’s hard for us to accept the same old backyard barbecue and store bought fireworks year after year. Although I love a good barbecue, some of us might be hoping to mix things up this year on July 4th. Here are the best destinations to celebrate our favorite summer celebration.
July 4th tends to bring out our patriotic side, but San Diego is naturally proud of their country. This may have something to do with the several military bases stationed around or it could be the stellar weather and relaxing beaches. Whatever it is that gets you there you’ll have plenty of options when the 4th rolls around. The Oceanside Firework Show takes place at El Corazon Site at Rancho Del Oro Drive. There’s nothing better than fireworks blazing over the ocean on a warm summer night. Try the Annual Big Bay Boom July 4Th Fireworks Show, which can be seen from several locations around the San Diego Bay. This show will knock your socks off and start your weekend off right. The show is launched from barges that float offshore of the bay.
Does the excitement ever stop in this festive city? I think the answer is no. Skip the backyard bottle rockets and see the Dueling Barges battle it out with a fun firework show. On the banks of the Mississippi River, you can see the Go Fourth on the River Extravaganza. This battling show of fireworks goes along to a patriotic tune that will put you in the spirit. What’s better is that you can either enjoy the show from the comfort of the river bank or join a firework cruise on a steamboat that will get you the best seat in the house.
Miami is one big party full of the young and old. Whether you’re retired or on summer vacation there is something here for everyone. On the 4th expect to see picnics, parties, drinks, fireworks, concerts, and more. There is quite literally something for everyone. Take a more traditional day of burgers, hotdogs, and beer, or live it up concert style with some wild dancing. One thing you can count on is fireworks. In Miami, there are eight major firework shows that will light up your night. Miami Beach’s Fire on the Fourth ranks number one. Head to the beach early for some morning yoga, lounge on the beach and slide right into the night with a great DJ, a collection of food trucks, and a spectacular firework show on the North Shore Park Bandshell.
New York City
Of course, New York City is on this list, because it’s New York. The fabulous fireworks are an added bonus to the fact that you’re in New York City. Perfect for any foodie, shopper, adventurer, sports fan, and so much more, this city does not disappoint. Catch a baseball game in the afternoon, what’s more patriotic than that? Then head to the many rooftops to spot the fireworks filling up NYC skyline. Probably the most well-known show is the Macy’s Firework show, but don’t worry you won’t have to be in a crowd of people to spot these flashing lights. You should be able to see the show from most downtown Manhattan neighborhoods, as well as some parts of Brooklyn and Queens. Come together in NYC to celebrate the 4th!
