Here are just a few highlights that The Tour Guy has offered for summer of 2019.

Capuchin Crypts

The Capuchin Crypt is a small space comprising several tiny chapels located beneath the church of Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini. It’s located near the Via Veneto by the Piazza Barberini in Rome, Italy. What brings a record number of tourists to this site each year is the skeletal remains of 3,700 bodies believed to be Capuchin friars buried by their order. Art lovers will especially love this tour. That’s because many of the crypt walls are elaborately decorated with skeletal remains, making it a cryptic work of art that you can’t see anywhere else in the world. The crypts are divided into five chapels: Crypt of the Resurrection, Crypt of the Skulls, Crypt of the Pelvises, Crypt of the Leg Bones and Thigh Bones and Crypt of the Three Skeletons.

The Domitilla Catacombs

Located in Rome, the Catacombs of Domitilla are an underground Christian cemetery that will without a doubt prove to be a unique experience on your Roman itinerary. It was named after the Domitilla family that had initially ordered them to be dug during ancient times. The catacombs are composed of tufa, a form of limestone. Back in 2017, restorers finished work on two rooms. So far, only 12 out of 70 rooms have been restored to its original glory. One of the highlights of this visit will be the second-century fresco of The Last Supper. There’s also an elaborate underground maze of tunnels which will give visitors a rare glimpse into earliest practices of Christianity in Rome.

The Appian Way and Aurelian Walls

Go back in history by walking down one of the most important Roman roads of the ancient republic. The road is named after Appius Claudius Caecus, a Roman censor who began and completed the first second of the road for the military back in 312 BC. This was during the Samnite Wars. The Tour Guy will lead you through a small walk across a stretch of this historic and ancient road. It’s also been noted that this is the location of the crucifixion of 10,000 slaves during the revolt of Spartacus.
