Travel From US To Chile Just Got Easier With New Digital Health Pass

Chile is the first Latin American country to welcome US travelers under American Airlines’ new digital health pass.

Chile officially opened its borders on November 23, but now things have gotten easier for US visitors to the country. It has officially become the first Latin American country to welcome US travelers under American Airlines’ new digital health pass. This makes travel much easier during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
American Airlines digital health pass

The Chilean government is working with American Airlines to offer passengers the option of a new mobile digital health app when visiting the country. The app goes by the name VeriFLY and can be downloaded for free on iOS and Android. Passengers can then use it to securely store the required travel documentation. This includes flight details and proof of a negative COVID-19 test.

The new app is similar to the CommonPass app being trialed by major airlines including Virgin Atlantic and United. It will verify that the supplied information about the passenger matches the entry policies of the user’s destination country prior to giving them the green light to travel.

App Available For Flights Between Miami And Santiago

As at December 7, passengers traveling between Miami and Santiago have the opportunity to test out the new digital health pass at no cost. Andrea Wolleter, director of Chile’s National Tourism Service, said, “Today we are promoting responsible and safe tourism through the adoption of protocols which now provide a better travel experience, helping simplify procedures while respecting health security measures.”

At-Home Testing

On top of this, American Airlines is the first to provide passengers traveling to South America an at-home testing option via LetsGetChecked. Using this service, travelers will receive a PCR testing kit at their home address. The test will then be observed virtually by a medical professional.

With the combination of the digital health pass and pre-flight testing, it is hoped traveling abroad will be easier and safer for US residents during the pandemic.

When Chile reopened its borders on November 23, the country applied a measured approach to tourism with set protocols in place for visitors. Travelers entering Chile must have proof of a negative COVID-19 test, performed within 72 hours of flying. They are also required to take out a health insurance policy to cover coronavirus issues during their stay in the country.

The Santiago De Chile Airport Also Opened In November

At the time of reopening, Paula Daza, Undersecretary of Health in Chile, said, “We are opening the borders with prudence, taking the necessary safeguards. We hope that these reunions, especially of those binational families that have been separated, can become a reality, with all the necessary self-care measures to avoid contagion. Chileans and foreigners, I ask that we take care of each other.”

The Santiago de Chile airport also opened in November with direct flights from Amsterdam, Guayaquil, Buenos Aires, Madrid, Lima, Miami, Panama, New York and Sao Paulo. It is expected that more flights will be added soon.

Travelers are urged to keep up-to-date at all times with local public health guidelines as these can often change. This relates particularly to any possible local curfews. Masks are mandatory in public and the normal social distancing rules apply in Chile.
