Walt Disney World Placing Digital Face Masks On Maskless Guests In On-Ride Photos

Walt Disney World Placing Digital Face Masks On Maskless Guests In On-Ride PhotosWhen Walt Disney World theme parks reopened in July, COVID-19 health and safety protocols were put in place but some are not wearing face masks.

Walt Disney World theme parks reopened in July with a set of COVID-19 health and safety protocols in place. Among these protocols was the fact that it is mandatory for guests to wear face masks at all times. As a further enforcement of this rule, anyone not wearing their face mask correctly on attractions would not receive their on-ride PhotoPass photos. According to a report by Walt Disney World News today, Disney is now making a compromise and is digitally placing face masks on maskless guests in the photos.

A novidade agora em Walt Disney World é que para impedir aqueles que retiram suas máscaras para “sairem bem nas fotos”…

Maskless Guests Receive Digital Face Masks

It might seem disrespectful that guests have refused to wear face masks on the rides at Walt Disney World. However, this has been the case with a number of guests at the theme parks. An image was posted on Facebook with the credit Tony Townsend showing the first instance of digital face masks in practice.

The incident happened aboard DINOSAUR and in the image, it can be seen that everyone in the front row is wearing their face masks correctly. However, the riders in the back were apparently not covering their faces. Looking at the image below, it is possible to see a slightly oversized, digital face mask edited on to the woman to the left. It almost resembles face mask clip art.

Possibly, the woman in question removed her mask for a better photo opportunity. Hopefully, she now understands the error of her ways.

My Disney Experience

For anyone who has their on-ride photo taken, while not wearing a mask, there is now an additional processing delay before they finally appear under the “My Photos” section of their My Disney Experience account.

However, guests not wearing face masks correctly will still receive their on-ride photo. Meanwhile, guests who were following the rules on the same ride vehicle will also experience a delay in being able to download their on-ride photo.

As plexiglass has been installed on most attraction ride vehicles, it is increasingly likely that guests will be riding along with one or more persons not obeying the rules. In other words, even if your group is obeying the face mask guidelines, there is always the chance that someone else isn’t.

“Monkey See, Monkey Do”

While the digitally-applied face masks will allow guests who disobey the rules to enjoy their full PhotoPass benefits, this could add another benefit. By encouraging compliance with the rules, this reduces the “monkey see, monkey do” thought process that could lead guests to wrongly believe it is okay to remove your face mask on the attractions. Hopefully, it will encourage everyone to follow the rules for everyone else’s safety during the ongoing pandemic.

At present, the digital face mask enhancements are not yet available everywhere. So far, this is available on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at the Magic Kingdom and on board DINOSAUR in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The park expects to see this rolled out to all on-ride PhotoPass opportunities over the next couple of months.

Hopefully, this will also encourage readers to follow the rules when visiting the theme parks. By keeping everyone safe, this means the parks can continue operating and giving joy to the families that visit them.
