The programs will be digital prologues to the Academy Museum’s core exhibition, “Stories of Cinema.” They will feature the varied voices of film artists, telling stories of their collaborations and inspirations. The programs will also explore the technology, history, art and social impact of the films.

The first program to be offered at the Academy Museum is “Breaking the Oscars’ Ceiling.” This will be a conversation hosted by Academy Museum trustee, Diane von Furstenberg. The program will be moderated by Jacqueline Stewart. In the program, the ladies will speak to women who have achieved historic Oscars’ milestones. Among these are actor Sophia Loren, deaf actor Marlee Matlin, comedian and actor Whoopi Goldberg, as well as singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie.

About the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures

The museum building was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect, Renzo Piano. It was originally set to open in 2017, but suffered some fundraising difficulties. Naturally, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic also didn’t help.

The museum will offer two theaters, including the 1,000-seat David Geffen Theater and the 288-seat Ted Mann Theater. The museum will show regular film screenings to celebrate the rich past, present and future of cinema.
