Viking Announces Incredible New 19-Day Egypt Cruise for 2028 – Explore the Nile Like Never Before
Viking is taking its Egypt cruises to a whole new level with a 19-day adventure that includes the pyramids, ancient temples, hidden treasures, and a luxurious journey along the Nile.
If Egypt has always been on your travel bucket list, Viking has just announced something that might make you want to start packing your bags!
According to an announcement released by Viking on October 26, 2026, the cruise line is introducing a brand-new 19-day Grand Nile Journey, with departures beginning in 2028.
And this isn’t your typical sightseeing trip through Egypt.
Viking is describing the new voyage as its most extensive Egyptian itinerary yet, combining some of the country’s most famous landmarks with fascinating destinations that many tourists never get the chance to experience.
The trip includes four hotel nights in Cairo and a 14-night cruise along the Nile aboard the all-suite Viking Ra.
Even better, bookings are already open!
From the Great Pyramids to Egypt’s Hidden Treasures
Of course, you can’t visit Egypt without seeing the pyramids, and Viking certainly hasn’t forgotten about them.
The adventure begins in Cairo, where guests will visit the Great Pyramids of Giza, the legendary Sphinx, and the spectacular Grand Egyptian Museum.
As we’ve previously covered here at Tourist Meets Traveler, the wonders of Egypt continue to attract travelers fascinated by the country’s extraordinary history.
But what makes this itinerary particularly interesting is everything that comes afterward.
Rather than sticking to the usual tourist stops, Viking is taking travelers deeper into Egypt, exploring ancient archaeological sites and communities along the Nile.
The itinerary includes 17 guided tours, giving guests plenty of opportunities to discover the country’s incredible history.
Among the highlights are:
- Meidum Pyramid: An ancient pyramid that offers a fascinating look at how Egyptian pyramid construction evolved
- Beni Hasan Tombs: Remarkable cliffside tombs filled with artwork depicting everyday life in ancient Egypt
- Tell el-Amarna: The remains of a royal capital established by Pharaoh Akhenaten
- Deir el-Muharraq Monastery: An important religious site connected to traditions surrounding the Holy Family’s journey through Egypt
These are the kinds of places that make a trip especially memorable, particularly for travelers who love history and discovering something a little different.
Luxor, the Valley of the Kings, and Abu Simbel
The journey continues south, where some of Egypt’s most breathtaking historical treasures await.
Guests will explore the magnificent temples of Luxor and Karnak, visit the famous Valley of the Kings, and discover the Temple of Seti I at Abydos.
And then there’s Aswan.
This beautiful destination offers the opportunity to visit the island temple complex of Philae and the extraordinary temples of Abu Simbel.
Travelers will also enjoy a traditional felucca sailing experience on the Nile.
Imagine cruising past lush green riverbanks with the vast Egyptian desert stretching out beyond them. It’s certainly a different way to experience one of the world’s most fascinating countries.
A Small, Luxurious Ship With Just 52 Guests
One thing I particularly like about this itinerary is the size of the ship.
The Viking Ra accommodates just 52 guests in 26 suites, making it a much more intimate experience than sailing on a large cruise ship.
The vessel was designed specifically for navigating the Nile and features Viking’s signature Scandinavian styling.
For travelers who prefer a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere without enormous crowds, this could be a real selling point.
Viking has a long history of developing ships specifically for Egypt. We previously reported on the launch preparations for the Viking Sobek, another vessel designed to bring travelers closer to the country’s incredible archaeological treasures.
Want to Stay Longer? Viking Has Options
If 19 days in Egypt aren’t quite enough, Viking is also offering several optional extensions.
Travelers can add two nights in Cairo to spend more time exploring the Egyptian capital.
There’s also a five-night guided extension to Morocco, where guests can experience colorful markets, historic cities, and the country’s rich cultural heritage.
Another option is a four-night guided journey through Jordan, including Petra, the Dead Sea, and Amman.
Personally, I think combining Egypt with Petra would make for an unforgettable trip.
Petra is one of those destinations that deserves a place on any history lover’s travel list. We’ve previously explored the mystery and fascinating history of Petra, including its remarkable ancient city carved into sandstone cliffs.
Viking Is Expanding Its Egypt Cruises
Viking has been steadily increasing its presence in Egypt, and this new itinerary is another big step.
The company already offers its popular 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary.
It also has a special Total Eclipse on the Nile cruise scheduled for 2027, which Viking says is already sold out.
Earlier this month, Viking named two additional ships, the Viking Ptah and Viking Sekhmet.
The company now operates 10 vessels in Egypt and expects to welcome another two in 2028.
Clearly, Viking sees plenty of demand from travelers who want to explore this extraordinary destination.
Booking Is Open – And There’s a Special Offer
The new Grand Nile Journey is available to book now, with departures beginning in 2028.
For U.S. residents, Viking is currently advertising special fares, reduced airfare, and deposits starting at just $25 as part of its Fall Sale.
The promotion runs through October 31, 2026.
You can explore the itinerary and booking details on Viking’s official Grand Nile Journey page.

Annemarie’s Take
I’ve always thought Egypt was one of those destinations where you really need time to appreciate everything you’re seeing. There is so much history, and it would be a shame to rush through it.
What appeals to me about this particular cruise is that Viking isn’t just taking guests to the famous landmarks. They’re including places that most visitors probably wouldn’t even know existed.
And with only 52 passengers aboard, I imagine the experience would feel much more personal than a traditional cruise.
Of course, 19 days is a considerable commitment, and I’m sure this won’t be a budget vacation. But for someone who has always dreamed of exploring ancient Egypt, it certainly sounds like an incredible adventure.
What do you think? Would you love to spend 19 days exploring Egypt and cruising the Nile, or would you prefer a shorter trip? I’d love to hear whether Egypt is on your travel bucket list!
