If you’re planning a winter getaway to the sunny Bahamas, the Ministry of Tourism recently made some announcements that might get you booking that air ticket. Read on for the updates and upcoming events.

Easier Flight Options

While winter is great for a getaway, the Bahamas is also gearing up to welcome visitors in the spring and summer of 2027. According to a press release on GlobeNewswire this week, it’s easier to visit the beautiful crystal-clear waters and enjoy warm tropical weather.

To help you get there in your particular free time, new direct flights are on the way available from several major US cities. On top of easier travel options, there’s a loaded lineup of cultural festivals, sporting events, and local food experiences.

Added Flights

The new flight schedule offered by Tradewind Aviation brings daily direct flights between Fort Lauderdale and Nassau. It starts on December 10, 2026, and the trip only takes 48 minutes.

Meanwhile, American Airlines steps up flights between Miami and Exuma to three non-stop trips every day. From December 17, 2026, to April 5, 2027, travelers will have more flights to choose from during the busy winter season. And, with Miami offering connections from cities across the United States, getting to Great Exuma’s beautiful beaches and clear blue waters should be easier.

The Bahamas is also serviced by Breeze Airways, which will bring direct flights connecting Raleigh-Durham with Nassau starting June 30, 2027. Passengers can catch a flight twice a week, with departures scheduled every Wednesday and Saturday.

The new route pairs with the airline’s current twice-weekly non-stop flights from Tampa to Nassau, giving you a few extra options.

Last on the list is Southwest Airlines, which will start in summer next year. The service adds a direct flight on weekends between Austin and Nassau. The new flights will run every Saturday and Sunday across June and July, making quick getaways to the Bahamian capital much easier for Texas travelers.

If you’re looking to book, seats are already available.

Upcoming Events

There are a bunch of fun events coming up in the Bahamas, and one of them is the second annual Bahamas Bonefishing Tournament Series, a nice blend of conservation, local culture, and friendly competition. Popular for promoting eco-friendly fishing, the final tournament runs from November 10 to 15 in George Town.

If you love pickleball, then you won’t want to miss the Abaco Beach Resort pickleball tournament in Abaco between November 13 and 15 this year. It’s more than a tournament because you can also enjoy the stunning views, a welcome cocktail party, pro-led clinics, competitive matches, and fine wine-pairing dinners.

For Foodies And Culture

There’s a great option for foodies coming up that will rock your socks and that’s the launch of TASTE of Grand Bahama Island on November 14. It’s already been around for five years, but if you haven’t made it there before, you can expect the Grand Bahama Island Restaurant Fest to happen alongside the Xquisite Catamaran Center and The Galley Restaurant.

It’s a wonderful food festival that provides guides to make sure you get the best experiences of live mixology, chef tastings, art displays, and music.

From the end of November running through to January 8, visitors can enjoy a new holiday circus show, “Pomp, Snow & CIRQUEumstance,” at Atlantis Theater, Paradise Island. It’s designed for folks of all ages and brings world-class performers and circus arts with stunning costumes and magical illusions.

Don’t leave off the iconic Junkanoo, a major part of Bahamian heritage. The festival started with African slaves who used their holiday break around Christmas to parade their handcrafted masks. There’s a lot of competition between the groups who compete from midnight to sunrise on the day after Christmas and on January 1.

There will be bright costumes, tons of music, storytelling, and more in downtown Nassau and the Out Islands.

The New Year & Beyond

If you want to see in the New Year, then you’ll love the Andrea Bocelli live concert on December 31 at Atlantis on Paradise Island. The show with Andrea Bocelli is held on the Royal Deck and kicks off at 9:30 p.m.

Art the end of January, there’s a new sports event in Nassau at Goodman’s Bay. It includes options to participate in a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, four-person relay, and the “Colors of Courage” 5K for cancer awareness.

The scenic course winds past local sites like Rawson Square, Saunders Beach, and Arawak Cay along West Bay Street.
