American Tourists In New York City Can Get A One-Shot Vaccine Now

American Tourists In New York City Can Get A One-Shot Vaccine NowNew York City has opened up a series of mobile vaccination hubs around the city in an effort to boost overall vaccine numbers and encourage reluctant people to get the shot. The city has announced that it will now vaccinate out-of-town US visitors with the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

One-shot vaccines for US visitors to New York

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio first proposed the plan at a time when vaccinations were limited to those who lived or worked in the city. However, now the state has upgraded its eligibility guidance to include anyone who lives in the US and is aged 16 years or older.

So far, it has not been confirmed whether the vaccinations will be further expanded to include international visitors. However, the state did implement this $30m campaign to attract visitors back to New York City at a time when some of the major attractions are reopening.

De Blasio said in a statement, “This summer, you’re going to see tourism come alive again in New York City, you’re going to see a lot of jobs come back because of it.”

“We want to go the extra mile, make it easy for tourists. If they’re here, get vaccinated while you’re here. That is good for all of us that they get vaccinated. It’s good for them. It’s another reason to be here and know you’re going to be taken care of. So, we’re going to be setting up these mobile vaccination sites where tourists go,” he added.

Where can you get the one-shot vaccine?

De Blasio announced that the vaccine will be available at a number of popular visitor sites. These include Brooklyn Bridge Park, Times Square, Central Park, Sunset Park, the High Line and Flushing Meadows Park. As for the vaccine, the city is offering the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine at these locations, most of which are open to walk-ins and visitors do not require an appointment.

However, that is not all. On top of this, New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has announced a further eight new pop-up vaccination sites. These will be available at MTA station stops in New York City, as well as the Mid-Hudson and Long Island regions. As an added incentive for visitors, those vaccinated at the sites will receive a free seven-day MetroCard, or a free round-trip Long Island Rail Road or Metro-North ticket.

The news comes as New York City announces that Broadway shows will resume in September
in accordance with the state’s health and safety guidance. Other popular and famous attractions, including the Guggenheim Art Gallery, Bronx Zoo and the Museum of Natural History are also gradually reopening their doors. This is certainly good news, not only for visitors to New York City, but also to locals, longing for a day out with the family.
