Viking Star Joins Other Ships Sailing From Malta This Summer

Viking Star Joins Other Ships Sailing From Malta This SummerCruise-lovers rejoice! As the COVID-19 pandemic gradually declines in many places, more cruises are becoming available for those longing for a trip at sea. The latest news relates to Viking adding another ship to its fleet in the homeport of Malta. The Viking Star is set to join the Viking Sea and Viking Venus in Malta’s capital, Valletta, between July and October.

Vaccinated guests sail on the Viking Star

The Viking Star will offer 11-day, roundtrip itineraries for vaccinated guests, including an overnight stay in Valletta, before sailing to Italy and Spain. The ship will call in at Messina, Naples (Pompeii), Civitavecchia (Rome), Livorno (Florence/Pisa) Genoa and Barcelona.

The other two Viking ships offer the Malta and Adriatic Jewels itineraries which include an overnight in Valletta before sailing to Montenegro and Croatia. Along the way, the ships will call in at Kotor, Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar and Sibenik. On the return journey to the Maltese archipelago, the ship will stop on Gozo Island before finally returning to Valetta.

Passengers on the Malta and Greek Isles Discovery itinerary will also enjoy an overnight in Valetta, before sailing to Greece, stopping in at Kalamata, Athens, Santorini, Rhodes and Souda Bay before returning to Valletta.

‘Supportive destination partner’

Torstein Hagen, Viking’s chairman said in a statement that Viking is pleased with the response they have received so far on its new Malta itineraries. Hagen said, “Once again, we thank the government of Malta for being such a supportive destination partner as we begin welcoming guests back on board for ocean voyages.”

“Malta’s central position in the Mediterranean as well as its historic sites and many cultural experiences make it an ideal destination for travelers who want to explore the Mediterranean from the comfort of a Viking vessel,” he added. Hagen said Viking looks forward to introducing even more guests to “this fantastic European country.”

Malta achieves herd immunity

The news of the additional Viking ship came at a time when Malta announced that it has reached herd immunity ahead of its June 1 reopening. Malta’s government said 70 percent of adults in the country have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 42 percent of the population is fully vaccinated. In fact, Malta was the first European Union country to begin vaccinating its residents, putting them ahead in the game.

Viking recently announced its initial Welcome Back ocean voyages in Bermuda, England, Iceland and the Mediterranean, starting in May 2021. It also recently announced the restart of its European river operations, starting in July 2021.  The cruise ship line last week named its newest ocean ship, the Viking Venus that is currently sailing in England with guests aboard.

Get ready for your next exciting cruise with Viking this summer, heading out from Valletta with a choice of great destinations along the way.
