When you think of it, Bethlehem in Israel isn’t really that unusual, as it is the place where baby Jesus was born. However, few travelers think of visiting during the holidays. Meanwhile, the city is likely the most festive place in the world and is home to the Church of Nativity (pictured top and above), said to be on the very spot where Jesus was born. Construction began on the church in the year 357 and has been expanded upon over the years.

Meanwhile, throughout Bethlehem, lights, decorations and religious processions are waiting to be enjoyed. What makes it even better is that winter is mild here, so you won’t be freezing cold. Also bear in mind that the Christmas spirit begins in early December and lasts into January, so you don’t necessarily have to be here on December 24th or 25th.

2. Festivities in Bogota, Colombia

Bogota in Colombia rings in the holidays with fireworks and cheer at the Alborada Festival, held on November 30 each year. From then onwards, throughout December, the city rings with the warm Christmas spirit. In fact, the whole of Colombia is decorated with lights and candles throughout the month with many exciting things to see and do.

Meanwhile, Colombians have their own traditions to accompany the festive season. For instance, delicious traditional dishes are served at the novena gatherings that bring families and friends together. However, Bogota is particularly festival and magical, with its Ruta de la Navidad, also known as the Bogota Christmas Route. This takes visitors and locals through the city, passing decorated streets, Christmas markets and sparkling lights.

3. Spend the holidays in Amman, Jordan

While Jordan is known for its many Muslim residents, there are also many Christians that call the Arab country home. Meanwhile, for those in the country who don’t celebrate traditional Christmas, it is still a day of family and fun. In fact, Jordan’s capital, Amman, is particularly festive over the holidays.

Exploring the city will reveal many Christmas lights and decorations, as well as holiday events for the whole family. One popular attraction at this time of year for locals and tourists alike is shopping in the bazaars. Moreover, delicious food and decorations are available in many market stalls in the city. Meanwhile, December is the first winter month in Jordan, but the temperatures vary from 50°F (10°C) to 68°F (20°C), so it is never uncomfortably chilly.
