Viking Saigon Has Embarked On Its Inaugural Season in Southeast AsiaViking has announced exciting news about its newest river ship, the Viking Saigon℠. The groundbreaking ship, purpose-built for the Mekong River, has begun its inaugural season in Southeast Asia.

The new ship carries 80 guests on an adventurous itinerary between Kampong Cham, Cambodia and Mỹ Tho, Vietnam. The cruise is part of Viking’s 15-day Magnificent Mekong itinerary.

The 2022-2023 season is now underway, and sailing dates are available through March 2023. Viking’s 2023-2024 season begins in July 2023.

Torstein Hagen is the Chairman of Viking and he said this about the company’s new purpose-built ship as it embarked on its first voyage on the Mekong River: “The fascinating cultures of Vietnam and Cambodia have always made this region a favorite destination among our guests. With arrival of the Viking Saigon, we look forward to introducing even more curious travelers to this iconic waterway in the coming years.”

The Viking Saigon Is A Purpose-Built Ship

The new Viking Saigon was specially built to travel the Mekong River. The magnificent ship hosts 80 guests in 40 outside staterooms. All of the staterooms feature the sleek, elegant Scandinavian design for which Viking is known, and contain hotel-style beds and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors with either a Veranda or French Balcony.

All guests on the three-deck Viking Saigon can enjoy a Spa & Fitness Center, Infinity Pool and open-air Sky Bar on the Upper Deck.

The Viking Saigon Sails The Magnificent Mekong

During an incredible 15-day journey, Viking Saigon guests have the opportunity to explore the cultural treasures of Vietnam and Cambodia via 16 guided tours. Additionally, guests will enjoy hotel stays in Hanoi, Siem Reap and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) as part of an eight-day Mekong River voyage.

The unique itinerary allows Viking guests to visit the Old Quarter of Hanoi and attend a performance by Apsara dancers. Guests will also have the opportunity to experience fresh, distinctive ingredients in thriving markets and local restaurants.

Along the way guests can explore the historic Khmer temple complex of Angkor Wat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They are also able to tour the ancient jungle ruins of Ta Prohm, and sample the sights of Phnom Penh from a cyclo rickshaw.

While Viking guests are on the river voyage portion of the itinerary they have several options to further explore and experience local culture. Adventurous guests on the Viking Saigon have the chance to visit silk towns and fishing villages, step inside traditional monasteries and call upon floating markets.
