Set in a World Heritage Site and dating back 900 years, the castle offers daily tours, which are great enough. However, it turns out the castle is student accommodation these days and if you visit out of school term, you can even spend the night here. 4. Bodium Castle in the UK

Rising from the waters of East Sussex, Bodium Castle is set in pretty countryside and is as picturesque as its surroundings. The 14th-century castle still has its original gatehouse and round towers and is surrounded by the water-filled moat. While beautiful to look at, Bodium is mostly just that beautiful external stone shell and has little to see inside. However, just viewing the castle from the outside is reward enough.

5. Leeds Castle in England

When thinking of true English castles, Leeds is another beautiful example and is also set in a beautiful moat. Here, visitors can experience 900 years of varied history and great architectural beauty. While originally a Norman fortification, the castle was subsequently owned by a number of queens. Meanwhile, it later became a gorgeous Georgian mansion that was restored in the 20th century by an Anglo-American heiress, Lady Baillie. Walking the halls of Leeds Castle, it is easy to imagine the lady entertaining her high society friends. However, that’s not all, as the gardens surrounding the castle are equally beautiful and include a maze.
