TikTok mom shares ‘game-changing’ travel hack for toddlers

Long-haul flights can be hard on parents, especially when the children are toddlers. Let’s face it, they can be a challenge at the best of times, but on a plane, they can get restless and bored very easily. It becomes a true challenge to keep them in their seats and not bother other passengers on the flight. However, thankfully, one mom has shared a travel hack for parents traveling with their little ones.

TikTok content creator, Kaleigh Gawn shared a “game-changing,” “ultimate toddler travel hack” on her TikTok page, @kaleighgawn. In her recent video, the mom-of-one says: “If you’re flying with your toddler coming up this one is for you [sic].”

Kaleigh continued, saying: “We purchased this blow-up pillow off Amazon. It came with the pump and it fills the space between your seat and the tray table in front of you,” adding:

This allows your toddler to stretch out during nap time or just lounging. It was a game changer.

The best way to find the travel hack is to search on Amazon with the keywords, “inflatable footrest.”

Prices vary, but the product is mostly affordable. However, before making your purchase, check with your airline to find out if they do allow them onboard. While the footrest is great for comfort, some airlines don’t allow them during the flight due to safety precautions. In fact, apparently, British Airways, United and Qantas are some of the airlines that don’t allow it.

However, according to the website of Flyaway, a company that sells inflatable items to make long-haul flights easier for kids, inflatable footrests are accepted on more than 50 airlines around the world. In fact, according to the website’s FAQs, the listed airlines do accept them, while other on other listed airlines, it will be up to the flight crew.

Moreover, some airlines do allow inflatable footrests while in-flight, but not during take-off and landing. It is definitely a good idea to check with your own airline before going ahead with the travel hack.

In the comments on Kayleigh’s TikTok, a former flight attendant gave some advice, saying:

Try to put it on a window seat. I can see crews not being totally okay with it in the middle seat.

Meanwhile, another parent commented on the TikTok video, writing, “The best thing! My kids slept on it and we loved the extra support for their legs and head.”

Moreover, another parent commented on the post, writing, “We had them for both our kids. The best, especially if they want to sleep. It’s like a bed. Works for older children too.”

It certainly does sound like a “game changer” for parents of toddlers. Try it out on your next flight, after checking with the airline first.
