There’s a new, fun travel trend known as set-jetting, taking travelers to the film sets of their favorite movies and TV shows. Remember The Lord of the Rings, when travelers visited New Zealand to see those iconic landscapes and quaint Hobbit houses? When Game of Thrones was a huge hit on HBO, people started touring its many beautiful filming locations. The same happened recently with the popular Netflix show, Bridgerton, where people visited the quaint town of Bath in England.

Where will set-jetting take you during 2023?

Naturally, people still visit the sets of The Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones and Bridgerton, but there are now many more locations. You see the amazing scenes on the big screen or TV and get a yearning to visit these incredible locations. Of course, this is especially so when the New Year starts off cold and dreary when people start bingeing their favorite shows.

Amazingly, set-jetting is listed in the British Collins Dictionary, where it is described as:

The practice of visiting places used as locations in feature films.

There is even a derived form for travelers who actually do this, where they are known as set-jetters. According to Expedia’s 2023 travel trends report, two-thirds of international travelers have considered the trend, while some 39 percent have actually booked trips to these destinations. In fact, this makes traveling to TV and film sets second only to advice received from friends and family when it comes to planning a vacation this year.

However, set-jetting isn’t really a new trend, but two years of binge-watching TV shows and movies during the pandemic have increased its popularity. Moreover, the settings themselves are getting more glamorous as time goes by, tempting viewers to visit.
