United Airlines has good news for American travelers wishing to visit the beautiful Algarve region of Portugal. The airline has announced that from May 24, 2024, it will offer direct flights between Faro Airport in the Algarve, Portugal and Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.

The airline issued a statement on Thursday, October 26, to announce the new direct route. United Airlines announced that “the new flight will make it easier for US customers to visit the Portuguese region of Algarve, which is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, stunning countryside, and historic sites.”

The popular airline advised that it currently serves more destinations in Portugal than any other US airline. In fact, they offer an existing year-round service between Newark Liberty International Airport and Lisbon. Moreover, they offer seasonal routes between Washington Dulles Airport to Lisbon, Newark Liberty International Airport to Porto and to Ponta Delgado in the beautiful Azores Islands.

How often will the flights be available?

According to publituris.pt, the flight will operate four times a week on a Boeing 757-200. Moreover, besides the new route to Faro in the Algarve, new flights will also be available to Reykjavik, Rome, Brussels and Malaga.

Moreover, nine of United Airlines’ most popular seasonal routes to Portugal, Italy, France and Spain will come back into operation around two months earlier than previously. United explained that this, “gives customers more time and options to explore Europe.

Since the end of the pandemic, United has seen demand for transatlantic travel increase in 2023. While summer travel is still popular, the extreme heat waves experienced this year in Europe, United has more and more customers seeking spring getaways.

In fact, the airline has served 33 percent more passengers across the Atlantic this spring than in 2022. Moreover, United predicts that demand will continue to grow in the spring of 2024.

Meanwhile, to offer travelers more time and options in Europe, United Airlines is resuming several flights on its most popular routes including Lisbon. In fact, flights between Washington Dulles Airport and Lisbon will commence on February 15, 2024.
