Train travel is having a big moment right now, with many travelers reducing their carbon footprint while catching high-speed or sleeper trains. However, this mode of transport isn’t always affordable by travelers on a budget. With the new routes planned by the Dutch rail operator, Go Volta, even those on a budget will get to watch those picture-perfect scenes passing by, while relaxing in comfortable seats. Travelers can enjoy all the amenities of train travel at lower prices coming in the spring of 2025.

GoVolta, a new Dutch rail operator, is launching some long-awaited new train routes through Europe, set to happen in the spring of 2025. In May, June and July of 2025, GoVolta will launch respectively, an Amsterdam – Berlin route seven days a week, an Amsterdam – Copenhagen route seven days a week, and an Amsterdam – Basel route three days a week.

This means that budget travelers can start off in Amsterdam in the Netherlands and visit some of Europe’s most popular destinations. However, that isn’t all, as an Amsterdam – Paris route is also planned, but not as quickly. The new train service from Amsterdam to Paris will only launch earliest 2026.

What is so exciting about the new rail service?

travelers know, there have been many announcements relating to new train services in Europe. These are related to efficient high-speed rail service and exciting new sleeper trains. The reason why GoVolta is different is that it will truly be an economical alternative to flying, but without costing a fortune. Those who have traveled by train in Europe before have noted the high ticket prices, so this new service should be hugely popular.

To find out how much the new service will cost, Go Volta’s economy tickets will cost a little under $10. This is more than 60 percent cheaper than other rail operators on the same routes. Meanwhile, this doesn’t just apply to a couple of seats on a train.

Reportedly, GoVolta will offer more than 100 economy seats on each of its trains, and the $10 ticket will offer a great travel experience, too. Like the new routes, the train carriages, along with everything inside will be brand new, thus limiting concerns about cleanliness.

The only possible downside is the speed of the service. Reportedly, GoVolta’s new service will be a little slower than the high-speed trains. An example is the Berlin route, which will take eight hours against other rail operators’ normal six hours. Meanwhile, with the comfortable seats and the wonderful views going by, spending two more hours on board is not exactly a chore.

One thing readers should bear in mind is that as soon as the new rail service launches next spring, you’ll need to be quick to get your tickets, as the $10 tickets will quickly sell out. Meanwhile, the rail operator is planning to put tickets for sale on their website starting in October 2024. However, an exact date has yet to be revealed.
