Albatros Expeditions To Launch First-Ever Halal-Certified Expedition To Antarctica

From 2026, Albatros Expeditions is set to operate a fully Halal-certified kitchen while sailing to Antarctica. This is a major milestone in expedition cruising and is the first of its kind to be serving delicious, Halal cuisine on the Ocean Albatros expedition ship.

Albatros Expeditions to launch Halal-certified expedition to Antarctica

Albatros Expeditions’ new Halal project is spearheaded by the cruise line’s Southeast Asia Business Development Manager, Rashidah Lim. Meanwhile, Rashidah is an industry veteran and the polar industry’s only female Muslim Expedition Leader.

Moreover, Lim is working closely together with Johanna from Albatros Expeditions’ Marketing Department and Sara, the company’s Business Development Manager in the Middle East. Furthermore, Albatros Expeditions’ Product Managers, Janina and Steffan, are set to market and develop the product, which is the first of its kind in the polar industry.

Meanwhile, Jens Rasmussen, COO and Board Member of the Albatros Group said in a statement:

Guests with other religious identities are welcome

This may be the first polar expedition to run a Halal kitchen, but that doesn’t mean guests from other faiths cannot enjoy an unforgettable adventure on the Albatros Expeditions 2026 cruise.

However, travelers must bear in mind that this Muslim-friendly environment means no pork or alcohol will be served on the voyage.  Moreover, guests will also not be allowed to bring outside food or beverages onto the ship.

Meanwhile, apart from the Halal-certified dining (Halal accreditation by CrescentRating) the Antarctica voyage will also feature ladies-only hours in the onboard sauna on a daily basis, which will also offer them panoramic views over the Antarctica sea ice.

Where will the Ocean Albatros sail?

The cruise will take its guests on an unforgettable expedition aboard the purpose-built ice-class vessel, the Ocean Albatros as it explores the wonders of the world’s final frontier. The expedition will launch from Ushuaia in Argentina, navigating the legendary Drake Passage to the South Shetland Islands aiming to arrive on the third day of the journey.

The Ocean Albatros’ unique X-Bow design provides exceptional stability, traversing challenging waters with ease and maximizing guests’ time in Antarctica. Guests will be taken southward to the Antarctic Peninsula, heading into the iconic Gerlache Strait, where towering ice cliffs and peaks line the landscape.

Once there, Albatros Expeditions’ Captain and Expedition Leader will offer Zodiac landings to explore penguin rookeries, magnificent Antarctica scenery and historical sites, while heading through the icebergs and visiting whales and seals.
